What search bait do you guys use on days where there isn't a cloud in the sky. I haven't had much luck with crankbaits on sunny days...

wind???

Yes----> spinnerbait or lipless crank

No-----> swimjig or swimbait (usually natural colors)

I threw some sqaurebills really close to trees and cover this morning and it worked pretty good, found some fish then switched to a Texas rig.

I have had good luck using a jerkbait in conditions like this, a little wind to break up the surface and some deeper structure to hold fish, sometimes they will come and get em.

Jerk baits are good like you said. I had good luck with the chrome top and orange bottom on the sunny days. I can cover plenty of water with a slower retrieve.

What is a good suspending jerkbait. I really want to walk the dog in about 3-4 ft deep water but my Husky jerk doesnt seem to dive that deep.

My personal favorite jerkbait is the Megabass Vision followed closely by the LC Pointer.  They are not cheap baits but in my experience suspend as well or better than anything on the market.

morning - buzzbait

day and night - spinnerbaits

Bluegill swim jig w/ Watermelon Red Rage Craw, little chartreuse on the tips of the claws.

As was said before,  if it is blue skies, sunny, with some wind, I will 99% of the time pull out some kind of chrome colored lipless crank.

If there is no wind, usually a bluegill colored swim jig that has a rattle.

check out a mirrolure. Made for snook and other saltwater fish, but I have had tons of luck with them for bass too. cast, then let it sink a few seconds and bring it in. Also I have noticed for the rapala husky jerks and jointed minnows, they swim much better and deeper if the rod tip is pointed very low, so maybe that'll help if you haven't tried that. hope this helps

I find the Mirror lure twitch bait the 17mr my go to snook and red fish bait sinks in freshwater without any shimmy at all, but the colors seem to work great in open water....I like to throw either a chatterbait but also a Floating jerkbait over weeds fished as either a topwater or shallow wake bait, or work it with a twich twitch pause for 5-10 seconds in wind, and Bomber or Bang O lure seems to get the job done, Red Fins if super windy so hooks do not foul...Big Bass will find hardbaits over grass in shallow water or deeper water if you find the right cadence.....

The Sebile Flat shad is a suspending lipless crank that dives only a few inches and looks like a juvenile bluegill or shad and will stop on a dime, suspended...AMazing lure.

Crankbaits or swimjigs for no wind, spinnerbaits with wind.

If I am new to the area then I will use a jig so I can feel the bottom and know whats out there, if not then I will use a spin/buzz bait

always prefer a realistic crankbait.. esp w/ slight stained
