Went to a family reunion today down in Saline, La. on Mill Creek Reservoir where my family has a camp. Got some bass fishing in. Haven't fished there since I was a kid. Had 4 bites. 2 didn't commit, 1 shook the bait at the pier and landed a 1lb 12oz beauty on my trusty ole 1/2oz breaking bream Project Z chatterbait with a green pumpkin Rage Swimmer trailer. Waded out to an area that I couldn't reach from the bank or the pier and this girl smacked it. Was great being there with family and reliving some youthful days. Can't wait to go back! ?

Threw in a few pics of the lake from the foot of the pier that's in one of the photos.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

@shimmy Great Bass my friend -

So tell me, were any of your fish caught on a jig by chance ?

Ha, get out of my head A-Jay! I could have been using anything! But, I did want a better guarantee to catch a bass over 6 pounds so, yes, I did have a jig tied on! Swimjig was good as well, but everything was under 4 pounds, so I put it down.

For some reason, the bigger fish this day wanted the jig to be sitting still on the bottom for 5-10 seconds.

Oh, and FYI, this guy might be heading back to Zion, big bass land, this winter. If anyone wants to meet up (hint hint hint cough cough), they should join!!!

Went out last night with topwater bass being the goal. Had on a weightless Zoom O’l Monster in June bug. Got a bite with it but switched to a plopper for a little more noise and a better chance at short strikers and within a couple of minutes got a nice little 2-2.5 (forgot the scale, kicked myself as we were leaving in the car but figured I probably wouldn’t need it... I was wrong)FEF12_B94-19_F5-4_BBC-_B8_A1-7_F61443_E9

Kept working around the pond just casting parallel to the bank. Very little cover in the pond and LOADS of critters. Probably 75 geese and 7 beavers in two acres of water. Came to a nice creek arm and cast deep in there and this big girl wanted the plopper.8_F6847_F4-_B444-4190-_A56_C-037_FE0_C2_

Measured 22 inches putting her around 6 lbs. Could be my new PB, But I don’t really care about that so much, just glad to have caught her. ?

Take a little break from my Jig fishing (so far only 7 caught). Went out early morning and water look good for some whopper plopper, so I tied on and caught two. After awhile with no bite, it seemed the fish want something slower, so I switched to my faithful Zoom Magnum fluke. Caught either 3 or 4 on this one.

Pre-storm finesse fishing after work. Got run off in under an hour by the storms, but managed 18 fish in one pass before that happened. Fish were up a little shallower than expected. Fun stuff.

It is smooth, super smooth both reeling in or fighting fish. I don't feel any gearly at all as I usually feel with all Shimanos(don't remember the K since I only fish it once and caught only two fish before I sold it)

It is small, but sit way higher than 50 and 70 reels. It is pretty heavy, I can really feel an ounce more. As of now I loaded up with 0.14 diameter (big game #12) and got plenty of line. The casting is good but definitely need some bearing flushing, gonna need new tool to remove that silence bearing same as met MGL(I checked and a bunch of grease on bearing). I have to set brake 2 on 2 off dial to 2 to get some distance. I'm gonna replace with clean bearing and do ultimate test with 1/4 oz lure (jerkbait).

Here's a trick for that spool bearing.  Take a magic marker or Sharpie cap and fill it with mineral spirits.  Don't use anything stronger because there's an o-ring on the bearing that will get damaged.  Immerse the shaft in the pen cap and move it around.  Spin the bearing and do it again.    Let it dry and re-oil. I do it with my Ald 50 all the time.

Great day on the water. All quality fish. Poppers, frogs, spinnerbaits and jigs caught them today. Caught them deep and caught them shallow.

2nd cast of the day, the MegaBass Pop Max yielded a 4-0.

I too, spend my (wife’s)family reunions fishing on their private farm pond. “Are we eating yet? When are we eating? We’re done eating? See you in a couple hours!”.

Had a decent day on Saturday 6/9. Managed 23 bass in the boat.

The best three were in the 4’s lbs coming on three different lures.

A 110 whopper plopper, a shallow crank, and 5” soft stick bait.

Couple pics of the better fish.

Right on! We got there a little after 9am. I said my hellos and began fishing within 30 mins of being there. Fished til we ate around noon, ate and then fished til about time to leave around 4pm or so. I did visit with them as well, but mostly fished. It had been too long since I've fished there. ?

My spot that was producing nice smallmouth (and a few largemouth) on a swimbait when the water was in the 40s and 50s is now home to many largemouth. Catching them in 20-30' on a drop shot, Carolina rig, football jig, and a 6xd! I don't have a boat with me right now, so I am floating around fishing blind from my kayak. I have spent enough time there that I don't really need electronics anyway :toothy10:. Let me tell ya, longlining a 6xd from a kayak is an interesting procedure.

Hey, I think I caught that fish's great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandmother!!

If you catch a bass with a yellow tag with my name on it sticking out of its back fin, be careful with it.  That fish would be over 40 years old!!

Congrats, great fish.

I'm telling ya, you come fish with me, show all your secret spots and I'll hunt those big mama down for ya.

Figured Friday was a nice day... so I let my boy play hooky from school, and we took the boat out, then he decided to school me...

I may just take you up on that offer, but I doubt if the Christmas tree I sunk off my dock in 1978 is still there! ?

There weren't any topographical maps available for that lake back in the 70's, so I used a flasher and made one for about 1/2 of the lake (teenagers with spare time).  I don't think I still have it, I will check some of my old tackle boxes.

Cool Pic ~ Daffy didn't stand a chance.

And I usually 'learn' something usefull when I have video of me losing fish.

I used to say "well, there's not much I could have done different" - but the video almost always tells a different story -

Of course, topwater's a separate deal.

I'm looking forward to checking it out -

This one was back in a little hole in the water willows and when the line popped off the willows, it just came off. I like to think it was just one of those fish that I did everything right and still lost, but I'm sure I could have done something different.

I agree 100% about learning from watching myself though. I've cured some bad habits I didn't even know I had from watching myself fish on my videos and also been able to go back and break down the patterns I was on without even realizing I was on them.

Right after the 2:00 mark is where I missed the good one on the Fruck. I did make up for it by catching a pretty decent one on it about 30 minutes later.

This is a couple days old, but it was one of the last times I went out and one of the best fishing days of my life.

It was my first frogging attempt of the year so my drag on my reel was still completely loose and I missed about 8 blowups on only a few more casts right at the start of the morning. When I finally realized the drag was loose, after a fish had held on to the frog and pulled out some drag and then spit it out, I started putting them in the boat, and they were good ones! After the sun got high I switched over to a magnum Christie Critter and started pitching it as far back in the reeds as possible and was glad I did! I caught my new PB for this state at 6.3 lbs (6 lbs 4.8 oz) and my best five fish were right under 28 lbs (2 of the 5+ didn't get recorded on the GoPro).

Then I went back 3 days later after a little rain and cold front and found them roaming in the lilies with a black and blue chatterbait. Best 5 for that day were ~23 lbs.

My post spawn smallies wouldn't respond to reaction baits shallow (10' - 15') this cool June morning, but a few were receptive deep (20'? 25'?) to bear on a ball.

Looks fantastic!!

Been doing really well with a jig lately. It is now a go to for slaying some Michigan hogs.

Picked up an original wooden Musky JB off eBay a couple weeks ago. Swapped out hooks and ready to try and land one on this big old piece of history. First attempt last night resulted in half a dozen blowups, but no hookups. Still fun for the first time out. We'll keep trying until I find one big enough to actually eat this thing ?
