Do You Get More Satisfaction From Buying....

Featured Replies

A new rod or reel? I dunno what it is about reels but I have a 3 to 1 reel to rod ratio lol.....

Hmm... even though I'll spend more on a rod a reel is probably more fun for me

Boy, I'm outnumbered!  I vote for the rod.  I think also has to do with I will use the same reel on multiple different rods typically.

My ratio is about the same. 3:1 reels to rods. I'm always buying and selling reels to try.

Not many options these days for trying out new rods. I am a full handle cork/ECS reel seat guy. Being from Canada, the options are less and shipping is expensive when buying and selling. I stick to what I like.

I get satisfaction from buying both. You can't buy one without the other is my theory....lol

Satisfaction doesn't kick in for me till I can say 'combo complete' and I actually catch something on it. But if I had to choose.... I'd say rod

I buy more reels than rods too.  I don't really know why, it's always been this way.

I am always more excited to get a new rod.

Rods.  Reels you can get all dressed up, add a bunch of parts and these days you can pretty much make anything cast over the moon.  Rods are just rods.  There is no changing them.  You either bought the right rod or you didn't.

I got .....heck I don´t know exactly how many reels per rod but it gotta be at least three.

I enjoy buying reels more than rods, not exactly sure why, kinda get a rush from it. Lol

Definitely reels.  Don't have a 3 to 1 ratio, but do have more reels than rods.  I am always looking at reels for sale.  Can't use all I have, but that doesn't seem t stop me from continuing to buy.  :sad78:

Only big fish being caught gives me the satisfaction my money was well spent.  I don't favor one component over the other, it's rod and reel together.

Reel guy here, love tinkering with them. Making them the absolute lightest and best that they can perform. With rods, I'm excited when I first get it, then it sits on the rack... lol.

I do cherish picking up clean discontinued 1st gen cumaras & cumulus rods though ;)

Its funny but i downsized and I'm at 10 rods and 5 reels, I just pair my combos now for whatever place I'm going to fish now...

With reels, you kinda know what to expect. The gear ratio, braking system, and spool capacity (and even spool weight) basically give you an idea of what it will behave like.

With rods, it is a completely different story. There are no standards out there so most of the time you are guessing, and if you are indecisive like me, buying rods is tough. Sometimes you just need to bite the bullet and get the one you really know you will like regardless of price.

To answer the OP's question- I really don't know. I would probably guess rods as of right now because I have explored deep into the world of reels but not so much into rods. Love trying new rods even though sometimes they are a complete bust and don't act like I predict.

I do love to tinker with parts and spools and stud though. I enjoy servicing reels too. I haven't had the opportunity to explore DC or SVS Infinity either so I am still intrigued by many reels..

I can't make up my mind. Both are awesome. And pairing rod and reel together is all part of the fun.

Reels, love to tinker with them.

I completely agree with this. You can sit their their play with a reel, turn the handle, free spool it. All you can do with a rod is hold it.

For me it's rods. I use reels on different rods sometimes. I currently have one more rod than I do reels.

I don't really understand having more reels that rods or more rods than reels.  When I buy a rod, I buy a reel, kinda need one with the other to fish.  I am the kind of person that I need a specific rod and reel together or I am not happy.  I usually buy them together.  They are both cool to me and I get excited when I get a new rod and reel.  I am satisfied when my rod and reel combo catches fish the way I want it to catch fish.  Although I do feel that sometimes rods are overpriced for what they are, especially when they keep breaking...

I get no more satisfaction from one over the other.  I get equal excitement from either.
