Looking To Add A 10-12" Worm To My Arsenal - Suggestions?

Featured Replies

The largest worm I currently use is the NetBait T-Mac 6.5" and it does well for me.  I usually rig it on a shaky head or T-Rig.  But next year I would like to get into fishing bigger worms maybe in the 10-12" range.  What are some of your favorites?  Does it only catch really large fish - I don't catch much above the 4-5lb range so I want to make sure it would be effective.

I was looking at the Culprit Worm, Zoom Ol Monster, and a few others.

Thanks.

Big Bite Baits Kriet Tail Worms are my favorite. They have a good tail w/lots of action and water displacement. It's what I would call a 'stick worm on steroids'. It's also a great bait.

Maybe it's me, but I'd say to not overthink it.  Any or all of those mentioned above will catch fish.  Find one you can get at the price point you want, in the colors you want and start fishing.  You can drive yourself crazy doing a comparison of all the worms on the market.

Last year I did some business on the Big Bites 10" Kriet Tail worm.

Rage Andaconda, Zoom Ol' Monster, Netbait C-mac, Berkley power worm.

x2 I gained a lot of confidence in the zoom ol mosnter with a bullet weight this summer .

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I really like the look of the Rage Andaconda (I like all the Rage products).  Maybe I'll start with that and a pack of the Zoom Ol Monsters.

Any tips on rigging (hook size) and how to fish them?

The one way I tend to fish 10" worms is to T-Rig it with a bullet sinker (1/2oz generally).  Simple cast and drag on the bottom.

I also have had some success flipping and pitching grass with it.  I peg the sinker when I do that.

rage anaconda is good and fairly durable for a ragetail product.  although slightly shorter than you're asking for, i have killed it this year with the netbait super tmac worm (9")

Ah yes, my mistake.

I like to throw berkly power worms in blue fleck or black. that is about the only colors i throw in big worms. But no it doesnt only catch big fish its not uncommon to catch fish smaller than the worm but you can also catch some very good fish on it. Its not really a big difference in the size fish you catch with the bigger worm but the presentation is better and you catch more occasionally.

Berkley power worms in 10" or 12"

Deadly on Kentucky lake...

Zoom Ol Monster, with a 5/0 hook, I stick with 3 colors for now: green pumpkin, watermelon seed and California 420. Might add some more next season, but we'll see. The Magnum swamp crawler is my choice for a larger size straight tail worm.

I used a 12" Berkley Powerworm in red shad a lot this year with a 1/4 Oz tungsten on a 5/0 ewg. As far as catching fish I caught some that were almost shorter than the worm. This didn't happen a lot but I did have some of the smaller fish go for it.
