I am looking to buy some FC. I haven't used it before and I don't really know what brand or types to look for. I know I want 17 or 20#. I have looked a Seaguar Red label, InvisX and AbrazX and don't know which one to go for. Any tips would be great. I will be using it for jigs, T-rigs, and other bottom to middle applications.

leader or mainline. My favorite is Tatsu and it is currently on sale. For

leader the Red Label is okay, some guys even like it for mainline, but I

am not one. The InvizX is stretchy and soft, well suited for spinning tackle,

not so much for baitcasting. AbrazX might be what you are looking for in

fluorocarbon. It is a very good compromise in terms of both value and

What application do you use the Tatsu for? Just leader or mainline?

I have #20 mainline on two rigs for bottom contact. One I consider a dedicated 

jig rod, the other weighted soft plastics. I also use Tatsu as the mainline for

swim jigs.  

Abrazx is a good line at a good price, will fit your use perfectly

Tips -By the best that you can afford. Sunline Sniper FC is a good reasonably priced FC. Before you make your first cast, tighten up your reel a little bit more than normal. FC does not have the same casting characteristics as mono or braid and on a loose reel, it uncoils on the spool like crazy. I think that my initial problems with FC was trying too light of a jig or bullet weight with FC. I went with a little bit heavier weights and it helped a lot. A lot of people reccomend KV Line and Lure Conditioner to help make FC more manageable.

I'm not a big fan of red label.

Invisix is soft and stretchy, as mentioned above.

AbrasX is stiffer. I prefer it for a leader, and not a mainline.

Sniper FC is my favorite for a mainline.

Ditto on the sunline sniper.  I just picked up some kvd l&l so hopefully it makes it more manageable.

For that, I'd go with AbrazX.  You can throw it into cover just as well as open areas.  It's a good, all-purpose fluoro.  I use it for the same purpose as you.

I decided to use AbrazX, would it be a bad idea to back it with cheap mono considering how expensive it is. I know there are tons of articles on the subject, but what knots do you use to attach it to backing (if you use backing), and what knot to use to tie to lures?

No, the brand of mono backing is of no importance at all. I generally match diameter, but that isn't

required either. If the lines have similar diameters, a simple blood knot will do. Otherwise I would

connect the lines with an Albright knot.

No, I bury the connection in enough line where I never feel the knot.
