Pluefger Supreme Mgx

Featured Replies

Has anybody ever used this reel? If so, how is it? I got it for 49$ at dicks on clearance and I want to know how it is. I got the 8230 spinning reel size and will probably use it for texas rigs and senkos.

bought one recently at DSG on clearance as well.  i like it so far.  i also have a pflueger patriarch and they are both quality reels.  i would have been happy with the supreme even at full retail, it's a really nice upgrade from the lew's speed spin i was using before.

Yah it seems really smoove as of not. But the one thing that I have to say is that it is heavy for a magnesium reel.

What Magnesium spinning reel are you comparing it to?

I picked one up recently as well.  I have only fished it once and it seem like a quality reel and at $49 you can't go wrong.

Good reel

Lol no I am just saying. Magnesium is supposed to be ultra light, and compared to my graphite reel, somehow the Supreme weighs more.

The 30 size mgx weighs 7.5 oz. Thats pretty light for a spinning reel imo.

Mag is around 30% lighter than aluminum, but def. not lighter than CF.    Take a look at the Shimano Stradic FJ in the 2500 and 3000 size, then compare it to the 30 size Pflueger.

Oh lol, I was always under the impression that Magnesium was the lightest and best reel material.

With all due respect why are you asking for opinions after your bought the reel, the time to ask was before.  Now is the time to give us your review.

I own 3 supremes, been using them over 5 years and I like them.  The 8230 is anything but heavy, the ci+ in a 2500 size is only 1/2 oz. lighter and it's twice the MSRP.

I've had a couple and liked them pretty well but both had problems after a couple years of use. Now mine did get a ton of use in those 2 or 3 years, so that might have something to do with it.

2500 also has a bigger frame and spool, though not by a lot.

The gears inside can make a difference too, depending on whether they use brass or aluminum.

You've got a heck of a reel. They are smooth as butter and the drag system is top notch.

It's second only on my list of reels to the one and only.......

President. That reel is my workhorse. 4 years strong
