Favorite Type Of Fluke

Featured Replies

Since I am looking to get into Fluke Fishing, I want to know everybody's opinion on fishing different types of flukes. Do you prefer paddle tail styles ( Yum Houdini Shad) or split tail styles (Zoom Super Fluke)? Also, what size do you like them in? And what type of colors do you prefer? Natural colors, like silver, or colors that stand out such as firetiger?

Havoc The Jerk is what I fish most now. I used to fish the YUM Houdini Shad but not sure they make them anymore?

×2! Throw in a few packs of bubble gum for pre spawn fish. Flukes not the kind you chew.

It wouldn't hurt to try a pack of caffeine shad and Ike the jerks. I have two packs of Yamamoto d shads that I can't wait to try.

For flukes I like 3 colors. White, Black and Green.

Lunker city. slug go's worked great and still do to this day.

I'll agree with the Slug go. I still use 'em. White and perch colors.

I fish a Zoom super salty fluke in pearl white 90 percent of the time, the other ten it's a green pumpkin Creme, sometimes with tail dyed chartreuse with spike it. Usually weightless with a 4/0 or 5/0 hook.

Big fan of Super Flukes and D-Shads, here. Super Flukes because they're cheap and everywhere, and D-Shads because they cast super far rigged weightless. Both catch fish like mad.

I'm glad to see Lunker City get the credit they deserve for the Slug Go.

BTW the 3" version makes a real good drop shot bait.

The slug-go is literally THE bait that got me back into fishing. Love Lunker City too!

If you like the original, try the Slug-go SS. It's the same darting front but with a fine whiptail- suuuuuper finessey and stays in the strike zone a very long time with a sashaying motion that works great. It's my go-to "skunk beater" bait in the summer. Super durable too! Ayu, white and methiolate are probably my faves.

Also fwiw the guys down at LC are great people and if you buy direct they often give you free gifts! I've gotten a fistful of packs of their drop shot weights for free because I bought a bunch of the 4" originals, and they almost always throw in a pack or two of something else no matter what the order is. They appreciate their customers for sure!

Sorry for the thread drift haha... Slug-gos never stopped working for me though! Must say- that new Mann's jelly fluke looks amazing though!

I was hammering river smallmouth in 1988 with a Slug-O and it is still great, in fact the Slug-O and the Fluke are 2 different baits. That said my favorite is from a small manufacturer, River Rock Baits Jointed jerk and Case Plastics Sinking Salty Shad, both stay down better so they can be worked faster but the River Rock bait is pure money, nothing has been able to get fish to bite like that bait has.

When I throw a fluke 80% of the time it's these.

Then a watermelon red or a plain watermelon (don't remember what they call them)

Pour my own since none of the ones on the market sink like I want them to. The other two baits I use are a Zoom super fluke and some leftover Kinami prototype baits.

The Houdini Shad just got discontinued, now with the new line of baits.
