Tungsten Weights - Are They All The Same? If Not, Which Is Best?

Featured Replies

Tungsten Weights - Are they all the same? If not, which is best? I'm looking to replace all my T-Rig, Flippin', and C-Rig with Tungsten. I need a manufacturer that makes 3/8 to 3/4 (maybe larger). Thanks.

Try Alley's Tungsten (Google it). Best tungsten deal out there.

Picasso and VMC have been good by me, but I will also grab Strike King as it is carried at most retailers that carry fishing gear.

I use pretty much all Elite Tungsten. VERY high quality and a price cheaper than a lot of companies

I used to be in the same boat as ya'll, until I tried Siebert Outdoors tungsten.  CHEAPER than almost any out there, and very easy to get the exact number of each size you want, not having to buy it in packs1

Siebert Outdoors or Alleys Tungsten is where I get all mine from. Great prices from both.

I always buy from Alley's tungsten. I've never found anything cheaper

I personally like the ones with the inserts.  My favorite is Reins tungsten they make a very high quality sinker.

Wow, those are cheap sinkers. Is quality a concern here, or are they on par with the big guys ( Strike king, VMC, Picasso etc) ??

Never personally used em, not yet at least. Hootie recommended them, just haven't got around to ordering any yet... But Hootie swears by em.

Pro Tungsten the best quality and prices I've found..They have polished centers and really good guy to deal with.

Alleys tungsten is where I get mine. But will probably buy Siebert from now on to support a sponsor.

i just grab whatever i can find the best deal on. usually the strike king from walmart clearance racks

this^^^ i scored a huge deal with the sporting goods manager of my local wally world on some clearance strike king stuff. just ask, they want it gone. i also took advantage of some mis tagged weights at dicks last year. i have piles of tungsten.

How much does an insert matter in tungsten weights ?

If I find them on sale I could care less who makes them. So far they have all been good to me.

Inserts are to prevent line damage. Tungsten is very hard and can be abrasive. Most companies can make very smooth tungsten and remove burrs so an insert isn't necessary.

The insert will reduce sensitivity which nullifies one of the key uses of tungsten.

I want to thank everyone for responding.....but I'd like to clarify my question..... "cheap" is not my primary need.

"The BEST" is what I'm looking for. By saying that, I mean I want the highest percentage of tungsten in the weight (the amount of tungsten varies from maker to maker). Also, I don't want weights that may cut my line. So again, "cheap" isn't my concern as much as "highest quality out there". Please advise. Thanks!

You are paying for the name on the label mostly.

Alleys tungsten and seibert are high quality AND cheap (by cheap we are talking by a couple quarters to a dollar)

I for one will not buy any tungsten weights with inserts, only issue I have ever had with them is the insert sliding or falling out completely which almost instantly cuts the line.

Siebert tungsten weights are the best because you're going to be buying more jigs anyway.
