What are some of your general guidelines or known recommended guidelines for gold vs silver/chrome blades?  Also, while we're at it, how guidelines for blade shape as well.

I personally prefer gold in stained water but I dont know what the bass prefer.  Early Spring I use Colorado blades . Everybody here throws spinnerbaits and the bass will suddenly turn off of them  Happens every year . When that happens go to a single small , gold willowleaf  the rest of the year unless a circumstance comes up where I want the lift and thump of a Colorado , like at night time . 

 

I  think that I could get by the rest of my life with a single number four gold willow leaf  . 

Silver when it's sunny

Gold when it's cloudy

Willowleaf in warm water/clear water

Colorado in cold water/muddy water

Indiana anytime

Gold wherever there are shiners. Hammered nickel elsewhere unless it's very stained. Fish can locate a SB without even seeing it.

This plus gold in off color water/dirty.

I always go with gold in stained water, and it has worked for me! I'll generally use silver in clearer water.

Double willow blade, one gold the other silver.

When I use spinnerbaits anymore (which is rare) it's either with gold or painted blades. It just works better here. I also find the willow/colorado tandem set up to be the best for general purpose use.

Gold is for cloudy conditions and silver for sunny and I use willow leaf blades for just about all my spinnerbait fishing except for dirty water. The color or finish nobody talks about is the universal finish, it reflects light like the silver blade and creates flash in overcast conditions like the gold blade, and that is copper!!! I've been having tremendous success using copper plated swim jig blades on my bladed swim jigs.

Copper doesn't work.

I still haven´t found evidence that one is better than the other.

I used to care and neatly used gold in stained and silver in clear until situations called for replacement blades which clashed in either situation and the fish kept coming in so I really dont think it matter much except for your own confidence

What is this silver you speak of?...

I find that in the rivers around here I fish, they're pretty well set with Smallmouth. They prey on smaller smallmouth, which are a bit copper-ish in color, so about the only thing they'll hit at at times are a gold blade Mepps or Rooster Tail spinner. It's a lot of fun.
