Rod For Bandit 200's, Topwaters And Jerkbaits

Featured Replies

I know I'm asking a lot for one Rod. wanting to throw smaller cranks, mcsticks, vision 110's and 1.5 squarebills. I have a MH crankbait Rod but the lighter bandits don't do so well.

I also have a 6'6" M fast St croix premier that use for topwater, jerkbaits, and target spinnerbaits. Wondering if this would work for the smaller cranks?

Open to replacing the premier with something else to handle all of the above.

Any ideas?

Rig up the Premier and try it. I would think that it would be up to the task, but you won't know for sure until you try. Personally, I would prefer a moderate action over the fast for treble hook baits, but the fast action may be alright.

XX Flat Side Special. The M Premier will probably work but then you wouldn't have to buy a new rod, and that's no fun.

I ordered a St Croix avid X 7' MF last week, and received the 7' MM.  I almost kept it for exactly what you are looking for.

You can get the premier to work for you. Just make sure to loosen your drag up when throwing treble hook baits with it. It won't be perfect, but it should be able to handle everything you listed.

I have the 634CB, use it for jerkbaits and topwaters, love it, great rod. I got shorter size since I fish from shore, alot of trees and brush to watch backswing on.

We might be throwing very similar baits. The 6'6" Premier series crankbait rod med. with moderate tip is one of my favorite rods. Lure weight matches most of what I throw. Price is not too bad considering some of current rod prices. You'll have to touch a bunch of rods for yourself to get the feel you like.

I use a duckett micro for my bandit duties and believe it would be useful for some Topwater applications but not sure about the jerkbaits

Rods are a crazy thing to BS about because everyone is looking for something a bit different for it to do. You can get a real good idea in the shop for the feel and action. But, on the boat and in the water is a different situation. Rods are endless.

MB Orochi XX Jerkbait Special or Flatside Special, or the Levante equivalents. Also look at the Kistler KLX Crank Rip Twitch models I think the 6'9" MH would work.
