Hey guys so I need a new spinning reel. It is going on a 7'2 ML rod that will be used for shakey head, spybait, and drop shot. I will be using 10lb braid and leaders of different sizes depending on where I am fishing or what technique I am using. What size reel would you suggest? thanks so much

For Shimano or Daiwa spinning reels I would get the 1000 or 2000 size, as I would be fishing 6-8# line max.

2500 or 3000 (shimano sizes). I'd say 3000. Only difference between the two is spool size and the handle shape. I believe its the same other than that. So for the extra line pick up I'd go 3000.

I agree on the Pfleugers. I'm not experienced with Shimanos. But I think  2500-3000 size is the range I'd be looking at, regardless of brand.

Whatever size balances best on the rod you are planning to use...  They all hold enough line, the smaller spool may cause some coiling of Mono and Fluoro, nothing a little line and lure doesn't fix.  My Spybait/Shaky rod is a 7' ML with a Shimano Saros 1000 and 6lb Fluoro.

I use a size 20 lews speed spool spinning reel on my shaky head. I'm also a bit different in I use a MH rod for shaky head and 6# flouro only

I have an 8' ML rod and have used 1000 size shimano(stradic) and 30 size pflueger(supreme xt) I prefer the 1000 physical size. They both weigh the same the 30 size seems too big just didnt pair welll. Line comes off tighter with the smaller 1000spool less flap hitting the first guide. I used 10 braid with both.

Shimano 2500 is a grerat all-around reel, but if you want something "technique specific"

Why all the big reels?  Just have to put on more line.  Hardly use 40 yards fishing bass.  1000 for me.  No coils with braid. If I were worried about colis I would go with a large arbor reel.

Look at the first guide on the rod. Ideally you want that first guide to be 1/2 the diameter of your reels spool or your spool diameter to be twice the size of the first guide.

Really depends on what type of fish you are going after and your purpose.  If you are tournament fishing looking into cranking bass in maybe a larger or more powerful reel would be the better tool.  If you are fun fishing looking for enjoyment in the fight of the fish I would never go higher than 1000 size reels and 6 lb test from my experiences. Yes I have a few breakoffs from time to time.  Now spybaiting, that would be a total different story as losing those lures can get expensive.

All depends on the amount of line pickup for me.  I use all Revo SX 30.  That gives me 33" of line pickup compared to 27" for the SX 20.  When they hit those baits on the drop it really helps to have that extra pickup so you're not setting the hook on slack for me.

Just had mine delivered today.....put on rod tonight and can't wait to get out after work tomorrow to try out for little bit. Will be using for lightweight finesse applications. 

I think you will love the reel, 68camaro. I have 3 Ci4+ 2500s that I rotate depending on which spinning rods im using. Two extra spools gives me more line choices. I don't touch my aluminum stradics anymore.
