Super User Team9nine Posted March 27, 2016 Super User Share Posted March 27, 2016 I'm pretty convinced that no fish shuts down worse after a cold front than crappie seem to do. With bass, it seems you can always catch at least a few little active ones. -T9

BrianMRetter
Heading to Summit Lake and/or Westwood on Monday & Tuesday. Anyone had any early pre-spawn luck there?

Can walk and fish around 2/3rds pretty easily. If you stay outside the park, then the 56th St. causeway is usually your best bet. -T9

Well I didn't make it to Eagle Creek this morning but I manage to catch a few 3 pounders at a local pond.
IndianaFinesse
Managed to get out for about two hours for some easter fishing, caught a bunch of them but no size to them. Caught twenty-two fish, and not one over two pounds. Most only weighed about a pound. The fish were at the back of shallow coves right next to where they spawn in one to five feet of water. All of the bass were on the green pumpkin trd fished with a drag and very short deadstick retrieve. My guess is the cold front shut down the larger fish, but didn't affect the small fish as much.
Cole Richards
Got out on Saturday water temps are still 45 to 47 here , got a few keepers on a jerk bait .  The water was super clear and the fish were all caught at the mouths of chanels .  Water temps were warmer in the chanels but the fish there were skitish and had lock jaw.  Still late winter moving to  pre spawn up here it seams like .
Alan Reed
Hey guys, This is my first year really trying to be a LMB fisherman. I'm located in Columbus, IN about 1 hour south of Indy, I've done a lot of research over the winter and had to restock my tackle box which was all stolen late last year. The part I am really struggling with is where the bass are right now. I want to fish the larger lakes such as Lake Lemon that is 40 minutes away. Thanks for the help
IndianaFinesse
Fished after dinner tonight, but most of the fish had shut down from the cold front that moved in last night.  An hour and a half of fishing produced six dinks, the largest only going a pound and a half. All of them on the ned rig fished with a drag and dead stick retrieve on the first drop off next to where they were yesterday.

Now there have been several fronts so this will probably scatter them from their normal patterns.

However with these fronts constantly coming through, I would check the West side considering we have been having Easterly winds.

Midwest Fisherman
Thanks for the feedback, I've read some articles that suggest the same thing. N-NW and I've been focusing on the calmer less windy areas as well.  I've only been bass fishing for 6 months and I'm having a great time learning.

Super User Team9nine Posted March 29, 2016 Super User Share Posted March 29, 2016 2 hours ago, Alan Reed said: Both Good, you have options. Lots of bass traffic right now on that lake is geared toward the very shallow upper end that heats up fastest and has historically produced nice catches. Fishing shallow cover in the canals and pockets upriver with a variety of baits is popular. If you stay down lake, focus on slightly deeper areas (pts, drops, etc.) adjacent to the many shallower flats and docks and try and figure out whether the bass are up shallow or pulled back due to weather or water conditions. Bass on that lake spawn early, so after this weekend's big cold front, expect fish to push shallow quickly. Just be careful if you head upriver due to the very shallow water in that area. -T9
BrianMRetter
Went out to my local conservation club today. Very large pond is what I would consider it. Water temperatures 56 Degrees, very low visibility after heavy rains the last few days. Not a single bite today, was only out for 2 hours but still... IndianaFinesse
Fished for about two hours today, and the bass have already bounced back from the cold front where I live. Â Total amount was thirteen bass, and better quality ones to. Â Most were between two and three pounds, with three dinks mixed in. Â All of the bass were once again caught on the Ned rig, retrieved with a drag and deadstick. Â The bass were in two to six feet of water on shorelines with vertical concrete. The water Temperature is 54 degrees where I live.

IndianaFinesse
Fished in the rain for about an hour and a half, and the fishing was just ok. Â Caught nine bass, all of them between about a pound and two pounds. Â Really missing the monster bass I was catching last week. Â All of them were on the trd fished next to vertical concrete on shorelines in two to five feet of water. Â Unfortunately I won't have another report to share till Friday or Saturday. I, for one, am actually happy to see your recent catches have been pretty much what most of us seem to catch out there. I was really beginning to think I needed to give up fishing and take up golf or something - LOL. Not saying you won't go on another hot streak as much time as you've been putting in, but anything approaching the four pound mark is a pretty isolated catch most days. Haven't been back out myself since last Saturday after the front when we caught about 35 bass, but nothing over 2 pounds. Keep after 'em -T9
