Not saying you won't go on another hot streak as much time as you've been putting in, but anything approaching the four pound mark is a pretty isolated catch most days.

I heard that you caught two six pounders and a four last Friday.  That doesn't seem to isolated.?

I didn't mention what lake I caught them at either ;) I've never caught a 6 from the home lake in the 12 years I've been out there.

Heading to the southern part of the state next week for spring break with the family .  Anybody in the southern part of the state get out lately , I was wondering what the water temps are like . One of my friends said upper 60s but I don't think so .

Wow, that's a lot warmer than up here.  Are the bass spawning or have they already finished?

Haven't spawned yet.

Been really weird year. I was down in Alabama two weeks ago and they were just starting to move up for the preapawn. Coworkers buddy down in TN said they haven't  started yet either.

Anyone else planning on fishing in the 30-50 mile per hour wind today?:(

A friend fished my lake early this morning and got a 6.5 that makes 4 bass over 6 and 3 over 7 since our first trip out...I am up on Barbee where it is snowing now..

Water temps range from 54-56 where I'm at. Should I be fishing prespawn patterns?

yes, the fish are probably in prespawn patterns.  I would start targeting coves in three to eight feet of water.

Fished for one and a half hours this afternoon, but the bass had completely shut down from the cold front.  Only caught four dinks on the ned rig.  The wind wasn't as bad as it was predicted, except the horrible gusts, but it kept changing directions making it impossible to find an area protected from the wind for long.

Got out after the guys from a local tourney finished, (the winning bag was only 11.02 pounds) but had a hard time finding water that hadn't already been hit to hard.  Did fairly well once I found a good cove, with the total being seventeen bass.  I was fishing in two to five feet of water in the back half of coves, most bass coming off of sun warmed rip rap banks.  A lot of them were just little twelve inch dinks, but my best five weighed about 9-10 pounds.  I tried fishing a jig, but only got two little giys.  The rest were caught on the trd fished with a very different retrieve.  I started out using the drag/deastick, blanked, tried swim glide shake, blanked, and then tried hopping it off the bottom like a jig.  Surprisingly the retrieve they wanted was giving it two little hops and letting it sink back to the bottom, kind of like using a jig.  Maybe the bass thought it was a crawfish or little invertebrate, but that was the first time I had tried that retrieve.  It was still windy today, but it was a little less and it didn't swirl around changing directions so much, making it possible to find a protected cove.

Been out a few times over the last several days and had ok results. Yesterday I hit a couple local ponds, one skunked me and the other with is our subdivision pond honored me with this roughly 3 pounder on my first cast. Bought a new AVID X - ML-XF so it was rewarding getting a fish on a new rod with the first cast. Used Uncle Ned with a PB&J TRD.

Really wanted to get out and fish today after having to get projects around the house completed this weekend. I walked outside after work and I couldn't believe how the temperature had dropped.

I recently purchased a mushroom jig mold (for Ned rig heads) and I am trying to decide if I am going to paint the jigs and what color is best.  I already own half of a gallon of red paint so that would be easiest.  Any advice?

Whatever looks best to you, but unpainted would work just as well and be a whole lot easier :)

FYI, I have a couple rods listed in the flea market forum for local purchase only if anyone is interested. Would be a good way to meet some locals.

Fished for about an hour last night, only got five but they were a little better quality.  I started out fishing coves where I had been catching them, but only caught one eight inch dinks.  So I moved out to the rip rap point next to the cove and found the concentration of good bass(15-17 inchers).   All of the bass, except for the little one, where caught on the trd fished with the swim glide and shake retrieve in four to eight feet of water on the rip rap point.

It is so annoying how the weather keeps bouncing back and forth between fourth degrees and seventy degrees.  And the cold fronts that seem to come every third day isn't exactly helping the fishing.  But, I guess it's still better than during the winter when I had to break through a half a mile of one inch thick ice in a canoe with aluminum sheets attached to the bow so the ice didn't cut through it, just to get to some open water!

That's just about the craziest thing I've ever heard.

But, once I finally got through the ice we actually caught quite a few bluegill and white bass after not catching anything for nearly a month, so it was worth it.

You sir, are my hero.

I know I asked about a week or so ago, but didn't get any replies...Anyone familiar with Summit Lake Reservoir and Westwood Run? Both in New Castle. If the 15 day forecast means anything at all, it looks like there will be a nice warming trend next week, on into the weekend. I plan to hit both of those pretty hard then.

The wife's family is from around that area. I'll ask her pops next time I see him. "He was an avid fisherman with his brothers when they lived down there still."

I attend BSU and have been to Summit about 20 times since December and have yet to catch anything. The weather has been awful at best so hopefully soon the bite will start up. Westwood looks good though.
