practicing pitching/skipping?

Featured Replies

anybody else practice flipping and pitching jigs as well as skipping lures while waiting for the cold weather to break? ive barely survived this off season by watching youtube videos and practicing pitching and skippings jigs. what do you do to pass the off-season?

I spent most of the winter practicing, my wife is sick of me knocking cans down in the house.

Yup! Small apartment with low ceiling makes great practice. Pick a target and pitch. Soft landings. I try to pitch under chairs, corners of walls, try to get in an empty shoe etc. This cold better stop soon... going crazy!

Tie knots, read, teach, research, buy, swim baits in the bathtub rigged in unorthodox ways pretending I know what the fish might like. Organize tackle, reorganize tackle, buy more tackle, buy more organization tools for tackle. Rinse, repeat.

I find myself watching a whole lot of fishing shows?

I will practice some pitching too, but mostly shows and organizing.

I don't do much of that anymore.. I just go out of my mind and reset when the ice thaws.

I practice my flipping and pitching, but every now and then I just have to go outside and let one of those test plugs fly.

absolutely i have to do something to keep from going crazy and my season doesn't even open until June 25th

I have a creek that runs through our property that I like to use for skipping, the pitching part I use a suggestion that was provided on here many moons ago with the PCV pipe, I don't do it as much as I used to but it still comes in handy, I have also broken the boredom by using one of my old corn hole boards as a target, it's pretty cool when you can get a bait to land on the board and slide in the hole LOL !!

I think I need a new hobby...

wish i had a power plant lake closer. fairly warm weather later this week. might have to make my first trip.

I practice while standing on the picnic table and flipping to different spots in the yard.

Since I got a nice casting reel/rod I've been practicing in the yard since I never had one

I can skip pretty well but for the life of me I just can't get pitching down worth a darn.  That's why I practice I guess.

my skippings fairly good. weightless senkos and texas rigged beavers i have no problem with but jigs really give the trouble when skipping. but pitching is another story, i have no issues in that area

I never use a test plug.  It doesn't act aerodynamically like the real thing. LOL

My wife will ask, "is there a real hook no that?"   I always say, "of course there is."

I can make a few pitches down the hall until that cat catches wind of what I am doing,  then I stop.

Sounds like you've been spying on me. Especially the part about pretending to know what the fish might like. :D
