Should I give up?

Featured Replies

About a year ago I discovered these two small ponds along the railroad tracks. The ponds are very close to my house so I've been there well over 20 times, often in the summer and then a couple times just recently. The ponds are fairly shallow but I've never seen any fish in these ponds only turtles and frogs. I figured if the frogs were there then the fish must feed on them. I went out and bought a boo yah pad crasher and fished it, nothing. Over the span of a couple months I fished everything I had in my tackle box, and not one single bite. I'm losing hope and have yet to catch anything here. What should I do? I joined a fishing spot finder and located these ponds and a guy said there is "lots of fish in these ponds" I tried to contact him but no response. Just to be clear I have been throwing crankbaits, jerk baits, senkos, spinners , all types of soft plastics, you name it I tried to fish it.

I'd probably try some live bait. If you can't catch a fish on a live shiner under a bobber, there's no fish in there.

Small, shallow water disappears during a drought or freezes solid in the winter. I suspect there are no fish.

This.

If you can't catch a fish with everything you have thrown on 20 trips with out 1 fish I would move on.

If there happened to be a fish kill over the winter you won't catch anything. Also it could be possible the guy was yanking your chain. Like mentioned try live bait or something like a senko. If you don't get bit find another place to fish.

Try corn or dough balls or worms to see if any fish are in there.

Forget it and move down the road.  It might be two things.  One, the lake might be so shallow that it periodically dries up.   Two, it might be so shallow it get too hot and O2 low in the summer.  Both situation = No Fish!!!!!!!!

I heard somewhere that some fisherman are known to lie...

I highly doubt that there are any fish left, I think you should find another place to go.

Bingo. Or too shallow to support life when froze over.

I've heard that too but I believe the one who told me was a fisherman :dontknow:

I'll say one thing for the OP, he's obviously more persistent than I am
