Favorite Post-Spawn Search Bait

Featured Replies

For sub-surface, I like the Bill Norman line of cranks. The DeepLittle N is a great numbers crank. For top water, I'm normally a Spook guy, but early post-spawn females seem to prefer a CrazyShad fished with long pauses.  If they are really tight lipped, a wacky rigged 4in. stick worm seems to get them to open their mouths.

In deep water I like a spinnerbait, or a rat-l-trap.  In the shallows I use a 1 minus.

crankbait or a swim jig, spinnerbait Depending where they are I may find them with these baits and then pick them apart with a jig!

In MA i usually fish a jerk bait pretty quickly or crank baits, although i love to fish poppers too. i don't have electronics so i generally just try to fish fast till i catch a couple and then i slow down and pick apart the areas i find the most fish in

Spinnerbait or a jerkbait

Post spawn is usually when weeds peak up here.  Jig or Texas rig plastic is my "search bait."  As they move even deeper in summer, I add cranks to the mix.
