No dock shooting with this but you already knew that.

Never owned or even seen in person a BFS setup, really have no idea what they're capable of. I enjoy fishing light tackle so they're intriguing to me but the money for an ultralight setup is a hangup for me.

I agree it can be pricey but I can't spend my money when I am dead so I might as well spend it on something that I enjoy. If I wanted to get under a dock, I would skip but that would require that I practice skipping and it has not been a casting technique that I have not put much time into.

It's too bad light bass casting tackle is so pricey.  I have a Daiwa PX-R on a Majorcraft Volkey and an Alphas SV105 on a Kistler rod and they are FUN, but costly.

I still have to have light and ultralight spinning rigs in the rod box to enjoy panfishing opportunities.

Tight lines,

I bought this UL combo of course for bass but also for panfish. It will throw panfish size jigs, hardbaits and 2" swimbaits without a fuss.

I use about any good quality spinning reel but the line and rod is more important to me. I like rods 7' or longer rated 1/32-1/4, and I've been using 6lb Nanofil to cast 1/32 oz jigs.

I held a little 5' pistol griped casting rod at a flea market over the winter and loved it.  I started looking at UL casting reels and quickly put that idea on the back burner.  I think it would make a fun little rig for throwing tiny Kastmasters at white perch, but not for the price UL casting reels seem to cost.

I have a president on my UL, which replaced my sahara (and I've been very happy with the switch).

However, lately I've been using the sv105 for that application for no other reason than I can and it's more fun.

I've got a Penn 430SS I keep on a Berkley Lightning.  Both are pretty old.  Rod is 6' I think, but I don't recall the power rating, and no marking is left on the rod....if there was any to start with.  My latest UL is a Fenwick River Runner 7'2" with an older Daiwa 1500.  Would have to look to get the missing letters in the model designation.  Neither ave been used in a while.  Not that i wouldn't love to catch a mess of crappies or big bluegills or sunnies, but they don't stand a chance around here to get very big.

EDIT: Team Diawa-S 1500CU

St.Croix Panfish spinning rod, Pflueger Supreme XT 25  18lb Gliss

I don't own a spinning reel...

I did not own one for a long time, in fact I did about everything I could to avoid having to use one.   I guess my memories were of big heavy clunky catfishing gear of my youth.  I finally broke down and purchased an inexpensive setup, to my surprise it was a joy to use.  I have since purchased several nice spinning rods and reels and truly enjoy fishing with them.   Give it a try, you never know.

for spinning, penn 420ssg with ray scott sport tackle 6'9" light act. rod. I have 2 of these setups.4 lb. test mono.for casting abu 1500 iar with a custom built 6'6" light action rod,MHX blank with micro guides,6 lb. test.

For spinning, it's not really UL, but my Lew's Team Gold and my casting, my Daiwa Steez SV TWS.

Pflueger President... same as the other spinning setups I have.
