As you all know, I fish a really snag infested lake. I have been catching a lot of bass on jigs this season. NOT TODAY!!...I snagged on everything today. Seems some days I could drag a jig through a barbed wire fence and never get hung. Other days I could fish open water, and get snagged on bubbles. This was one of those days. I'll try again Thursday. I feel your pain!  My favorite lake is full of snags and there are some baits I just can't throw without getting a snag, but any bait, no matter how weedless, stands a chance of getting snagged there.  

ive probably gone through over 20 jigs since march. I only get the Luck E strike ones at walmart because its only 2 bucks and change. i dont think i would have the courage to fish those $5-6 jigs effectively.

Dont let it get you down.  It happens to all of us.  I fished a full week in MI with only losing 3 lures  8-10hr days.  I come back and lose 4 lures in 3 hrs. Then a few days later I fished the same lake for about 4 hrs same structure.  No lost lures. It happens. 

Some days are diamonds...some days are stones...some days you're better off not leaving home!

I know the feeling Hootie. One day I got snagged so many times at the end of the day I took my last jig in my tackle box and threw it in the water just to make it an even dozen.

I feel your frustration. About every lake here has some amount of flooded timber. Some of the lakes have quite a bit more than others and sometimes it seems like it goes on for days. Last year we were fishing some flooded timber in a lake that is full of it. Tossing the usual jigs and Texas rigged plastics. My buddy lost 2 baits to the flooded timber and I lost 10. That was in 6 hours of fishing. Timber was in 15 -20 FOW so not the easiest stuff to get baits back from. I also probably snagged up another 10-15 times and was successful getting my baits back.

Hey Hootie.......wanna feel a little better?  About a year ago I had some bucktail jigs custom made for me in the off season.  We got a nice day in February or so I grabbed 3 of the 5 and took them out to the lake I bank fish from.  Tie on one.....single cast.  Hung up...had to cut it off.  Tie on number 2....cast to different spot....note...I've been to this lake 1000's of time.  I know where the snags are....except that day apparently.  Snag # 2.  Cut off.  Ready for this?  Tie on Number 3.....cut off tagline and toss jig into water.  As jig is sailing into water (way further than it should have) I notice that it has no line....other than the tagline.  Yep...cut the main line.  Jig was gone.  2 casts...3 custom made jigs.  I called my jig maker and told him to make me 3 more and don't ask any farkin questions.  He laughed and said he was happy to take my money.  It happens, my friend.  It happens.

I usually make jigs with a tungsten weight qnd skirt. Heavy offset hook and a craw bait. I get hung up a lot less than with jigs

I like jigs too but get a lot more snags with them than on the old reliable Texas rig .

Just be glad there's no zebra mussels on those snags. It's easier to just cut the jig off and throw it in the water than it is to try to drag through those things. 

Those days I'm snagging a lot just makes me glad that I know the guy that makes my jigs

 

Like I heard one pro say once, if you're not getting snagged with your jigs, you're not fishing the right area.

I try to put lost tackle into perspective by comparing it to say, golfing.  A round of golf runs about 2.5-3 hours, and you're paying $50 in green fees, another $30 for a cart, so $80 for 3 hours of entertainment.  Lose 3-4 jigs, that's only about $10-15 bucks and you're probably fishing more than 3 hours, so it's actually a bargain by comparison!

I buy SK bitsy flip jigs for the river and they are all I use flipping into big lay downs and sunken brush. They are cheap and I lose some every trip but I try to hit places that no one else thinks to throw a lure. My more expensive jigs are for the lake only and I have a retriever that helps with them.

I know the feeling. I fish in lakes and rivers full of snags. Some days I might lose one jig, others days I can't make a cast before getting snagged. Thank goodness I found a few boxes full of jigs at a garage sale, 3 plano's slammed full of nice jigs for $20
