Smelly markers usually mean petroleum based solvents.  Braids are essentially plastic fibers woven together.  Bueno?  No bueno? 

I use a sharpie to color my braid with no ill effects. I like the big chisel tip and always have a couple in the boat. Don't need it as much with the Seaguar Flipping Braid, but it fades a bit after awhile so I'll touch it up. Good for adding accents to baits too. 

No bueno for me. Dont feel like i need to recolor my braid, and dont like the smell of the marker. I do sometimes color my baits a bit when necessary

I do use it for deeper braid usage but the big magnum sized industrial marker I cut a slice into the middle for it STINKS.  Made me stop and think.  Can't hurt to ask.  

I use it for depth marking when vertical fishing.  I mark red/blue/green/black for different 10' depths when line is getting behind the boat.

They make a big, chisel tip Sharpie that doesn't smell any more than a regular Sharpie. I think I know what type of marker you're talking about, I'd be a little more concerned about using one of those. 

Never done it. I fish in mostly stained shallow lakes and I just don't see the need. (I use green Power Pro)

pointless to color it. dont bother.

Get Seaguar Flippin' braided line. It comes in black, so you don't have to bother with markers.  I hear it's selling VERY well (hard to keep up with the demand).

Is it coated like Power Pro? Do you know if it will cast well for distance? 

 

Thread your braid thru a 1/2 oz steel (cheap) sinker. Hold one end of the line & drop the sinker in a bottle of  colored scent. I use Spike It Garlic Black for this. Pull the line thru the sinker until you have dyed however much line you want. You are now stealth & scented.

You're welcome A-Jay. I have actually started to stagger the black, leaving a few inches of green, then start dyeing again. Gives it a little camo look. And I can't take credit for this. I go to the Classic & FLW Cup every year & picked this up from FLW Pro Michael Neal in Hot Springs.

I'm not sure if it's coated or not, it doesn't have the waxy feel that I associate with PP. Have not used it for casting, but it does flip very well. It comes of the reel smoothly which allows for me to be very accurate while pitching into weeds. It does fade a bit with use like any braid, but not nearly as bad as the other braids I've used. Basically it starts to look grey after awhile.

Thx for the info. I would consider trying the braid if I was sure it would bomb cast well. 

 

 

I've been coloring half the spool for a "breakup pattern" that's easy to line watch, and coloring the end of the line for years with a black sharpie.  No issues.
