Last week I fished three days and got -0- bites on days 1 and 2. On day 3, 3 bites and two hook-ups/ landing. The big fish was 31" and 10 1/2 lbs (brown trout). That was ALL I was looking for.

I would have to agree. I'm after the big ones. I do hate getting skunked though. But I think that makes me a better fisherman. Always trying to improve on the last outing.

Having said that, being able to go out and execute a new technique  (no matter what size fish I catch) is a great feeling. The bonus with this is the better we get, the better chances we have at catching a big un.

Nice cut and dry choice huh:D:D:D

I prefer to catch a lot of big fish (a thing that doesn't happen with any regularity).

Failing that, I prefer to catch a few big fish along with a lot of smaller ones.

Failing that, I prefer to catch just a few bigger fish over more fish that are all small ones.

Failing that, I prefer to catch a lot of little ones over just a few little ones.

Failing that, I prefer to catch just a few little ones over nothing.

Failing that, I prefer to be out on the water anyway instead of staying home.

Each trip, I am fishing for the Oldest Fish I can find.

Size is relative to the habitat I'm on but the objective is always the same.

Never interested in juvenile specimens of any species and will always be happy with a skunking rather than sore lipping a bunch of youngn's.

For me it depends a little bit. If I am fishing with a guest on my boat, I prefer to catch a bunch of smaller fish to keep them entertained. If it is just me or the wife and I; I tend to target larger bass.

While I agree I prefer to catch grandpappy or grandma I don't mind sore lipping a few younger ones as well. I look at it like I am giving free education lessons. They won't ever make it to grand ma or pa size if someone doesn't give them a warning that crank baits and worms sometimes get ya caught. :D

It depends where I am fishing, but overall I prefer catching +8 pound bass over small/regular sized bass.I still have a blast on days I catch +50 or more bass.Beats catching barely anything!

Since I don't get to go out to often, beggars can't  be choosers, so I catch what I can get... lol!!

You will never catch numbers big bass unless you fish for them.

I think most would sacrifice quantity for quality but sometimes quantity is better than nothing.

It depends. If I catch one fish, regardless of size, on a long outing, I don't really feel like I did that well, since anyone can chance upon one fish. Now that being said, obviously if I am going to catch one I would rather it be big. And one 5lber beats any number of 1lbers any day. But I also don't feel good about beating up on dinks. My goal for every trip is to go out and figure out what the above average fish are doing and how to catch them.

Agree!

I'm after the biggest (not necessarily the oldest) bass in the body of water I'm fishing!

If I have to sore lip a few in the process...sorry bout your d**n luck!

You know that was the under lying gist of my response there.  But I still prefer to refrain from "educating" too many shorts.

Rather have them learn the cold hard steel lesson later on.

You're a Confident & Brave Hunter Catt.

I on the other hand, lurk in the shadows hoping to benefit from the element of surprise.

If a day is shaping up to be a skunk, I'll take any bass
that bites. ANY. :)

On the whole, of course I want size, but on the reality
side of things, I am happy with a tug on the end of my
line resulting in a catch.

Awww, A-Jay, the rig is rigged wrong!

One word: Perpendicular!

Ok, sentence: perpendicular with no o-ring :)

Shrink wrap is ok.

But major props for the best rig on the planet.

You're a cool cat, I don't care what Jeff says. ;)

Thanks Darren but that was for you ~ I'm not allowed to fish that thing.

It's in my contract.

So many fish...uncaught...

Very sad revelation, my friend...

What's even sadder is probably the number of
bass I've left uncaught...but that's a topic for
another day....

Right after ice-out, I'm into numbers over size. Four months or more of not wetting a line has me itching to catch something and the more something I catch, the happier I am.  From mid to late pre-spawn on, it becomes a size thing so I'm targeting females until fall.  It becomes a numbers thing again in the fall which will keep the itch away for a while after the water gets hard again.
