Recent loss of four prized crank baits has forced me to realize I can not really afford to be without a lure retriever. Just wanted to get some input from you guys as to whether or not I should just buy one of the commercially made models ( if so which one) or look at making my own. Any input or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Oh almost forgot I do almost all of my fishing from the banks or a sit on top kayak on the private ponds on my land or the nearby golf course

HOUND DOG - repeat HOUND DOG - $15 - saved more than that first trip out - of course fishing from the bank you may need a retriever on a long collapsible pole but they are worth every penny if you don't care to make one.

 

A friend of mine made me a retriever. It has about a 1 to 1 1/2 lb 6-7" round bar stock with 3 eyelets welded to it (one closed on the top, 2 opened on the sides). 4 chains are welded to the bottom. If the retriever doesn't initially knock the lure loose the chains will snag the hooks. Use it on 50' of 1/4" rope.

Must needed when throwing big, expensive ($25+) Muskie lures in timber. Can't tell you how many it has already saved for me. But it is a challenge to use it when alone...juggling a rod, the retriever and trolling motor. Fun stuff.

Telescoping lure retriever nor only saves my baits, but gets other people's baits out of the trees too. Not only saves me money, butends up making me money.

I fished with a guy that used square bill cranks in the stick marsh stump field.  He used his about every ten casts.  It was quite a lesson for me.  He never lost one the whole day and he out fished everyone, it paid for itself many times over!

The best is tournament choice from Academy. I work there and found them at only 4.99!

Dont get one with chains as they tangle badly
