Hi, I'm just starting to get into flipping and Pitching... What is the best color for it and what brand/Type of bait?

Millions of different baits, and all of them are good. As a beginner, keep it simple.

 

Get your self a pack or two of 4" to 4.5" beaver type baits (I personally like the Havoc Pit Boss, but there tons of other good ones to choose from) Black/blue and Green pumpkin will serve you well to start with.

 

 

 

i like beaver type baits for pitching and flipping either on their own or on the back of a jig.  I also am very fond of the super , and brush hawgs.  The supper hogs are also good for punching.  Black blue and green pumpkin with your flavor of sparkle work great for me.  I dont want to carry a ton of plastics and these three get it done for me with only one hold out for netbait craws for special situations.

for me flipping and pitching i try to keep it simple. usually either a beaver style bait (ugly otters) or a craw style (netbait or gambler burner craw).. for colors i use either green pumpkin or a variant of it (green pumpkin red,  purple, etc...)  black and blue, or sun perch. i flip these with usually 3/16 to 1/2 oz weight on a 3/0 or 4/0 straight shank hook. hang on when you get bit. my favorite type of fising especially when theyre in the bushes.

Do yourself a favor and get some missile baits d-bomb. Super bug color is my favorite. They hold up well too.

Flippin and Pitchin are reaction strike presentations. You can use the general bait color rules and be fine. General starting point might be dark color in muddy low vis water, bright like chartreuse in stained water, and maybe a white or watermelon in clear waters.    

So take your pick get a dark color, a bright color, and a light color, and you should be set.  

 

Brand is whatever your best friend convinces you of. Personally the Pit Boss and Devil's Spear are shapes that punch through cover well. Also are very cost friendly, have tons of colors, and are durable.  

 

I wouldn't get really hung up on specifics as this is a reaction strike presentation. It's not like the bass are inspecting it for the perfect size, color, smell, or any other attribute like other presentations. And if you are leaving it there long enough for the bass to discuss it you were there too long. 

 

Ya can cast, flip, pitch, or punch any lure ya want

 

On any given day any color can be productive

 

My #1 last year was flipping/pitching a Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Worm, watermelon neon, & a 1/8 oz weight

Flip? Pitch?,... I use a Jig and Pig,.... colors? depends on conditions, the lake Im fishing, and if I'm fishing weeds, wood, or docks. I prefer a black blue version, but also have green, brown, and black jigs as well

I like the Havoc Pitboss and Rage Menace. Sapphire blue is one of my favorite colors.

Went to wal-mart the other day for groceries and stopped by the fishing section... Bought 2 bags of Pit Bosses, 2 bags of Christie Craws, and 2 bags of zoom fat albert grubs... Came to under 20....

As you can see, there are lots of answers to that question.  Color, most use a black blue or dark color and green pumpkin or watermelon variation.  The style you choose to use will be up to you.  Beaver style baits have various makers and forms, jigs, worms, craws, etc.  They will all work at some point.  Pick a brand, pick up a couple colors and go fishing.  Then the more you fish you will expand on what you have.  Don't worry once you start buying plastics you will find it's never ending (see bait monkey support thread).

Up in the Northeast its black,blue and any green variation.Love me some red flake though.

My most successful pitching bait of all time is a black jig with  black/chartreuse Larew Salt craw .
