Cleaning rods? Waxing rods?

Featured Replies

What do you guys use and recommend to clean fishing rods?

Do you guys wax them with anything? Meguiars wipe on wipe off wax maybe?

Will any cleaning products damage rods ...such as simple green?

Thanks for the help.

Simple  Green is mild and works well. Products like meguires can help against UV damage. Something like Pledge gives a nice non slippery sheen and keeps dirt from sticking.

Pledge is all I use on my rods.

Plexus I had from my motorcycles works wonders.  Still use it.

Regular soap and water to clean the handle, Meguiar's Gold Class wax for the blanks and guides.

I use Meguiars quick detailer since I have a bunch of it around.

pledge. little soapy water on the handle to get dirt off and that's it.

dawn soap and warm water to clean cork (then apply u40!).

Nothing better than a magic eraser for cleaning cork

Magic Eraser for cork, just plain soap and water for the rod, Line and Lure inside the guides.

I've never in my life cleaned rods with anything other than a squirt with the garden hose.

I clean my rods thoroughly with Dawn dish detergent. They clean oil slick off waterfowl with it, so it must be safe! Then I swab all guides with a Q-tip to make sure none are cracked. At this point I wipe them down with a rag wet with ArmorAll. Gives the blanks a nice, clean finish and protects well.

Reel handle cork is always cleaned with Magic Eraser. Then a wipe with U-40 cork seal. New cork is soaked with it, but after a full season of use and cleaning, just a light wipe is sufficient to take care of any wear spots.

X10 on the magic eraser for cork.  Although I only clean the cork if I am selling the rod haha.

I just wipe mine down with the same stuff I use on my boat...Bass Boat Saver.

Magic eraser on the handle, Dawn on the rod and then Meguiars wax.

Had not thought about using the majic eraser for cork handles but will give it a try. I have always just used baby wipes and found them to do a good job for this. I use q tips to check eyes and wipe rods done with simple green then follow up with light coat of meguiars quick detailer

Salt water rods get  washed down every week or so, fresh water rods have to lick themselves like cats if they want to be clean.

@J Francho I'm pretty sure is the one who got me hooked on Perfect Solution for just about cleaning everything.

As as far as after cleaning I just experimented recently my self and used Lucas Slick Mist. Rods came out great.

Also Mr Clean Magic Erasers for cork if needed.
