What is unusable?

Featured Replies

I have seen a few people say "I won't throw this" even though said lure works well.  What are some lures you will not buy/use even if they are effective for others?

My wife & I  (RoLo) take at least 1 fishing vacation every year, and have done so for the past 50-some years.

Before each & every angling trip, I meticulously peruse everything that I can get my hands-on

with regard to 'WHERE' & 'WHEN'. Without exception though, I diligently skip-over all data & information

pertaining to 'HOW' (needless to say, we never hired a guide).  Strange but true, avoiding all locally favorite techniques, lures & colors has served us extremely well throughout the country & over the years.

Back To Your Question:

I've amassed an enormous horde of unusable techniques, unusable lures & unusable color patterns,

but in a paradoxical twist, I don't have a clue to their identity    :)    :dontknow:

I have a tough time with hard jerkbaits.

Hey, bubble gum doesn't work for me either.

Clearly it is something we are doing wrong.

Perhaps laughing every time we cast a bubblegum

colored lure thinking "this'll never catch any fish"

and sure enough it doesn't. :D

Or looking through our plastics, glancing at the bubblegum colors, and totally pretending they aren't there.

I can't think of any lure/technique I have refused to try. There are some I've  resisted though.  The Ned rig, the A-rig, really any rig that doesn't start with Carolina or Texas.

I've warmed up

to the Ned though. It's the technique I hate to love.

The only pattern I refuse to throw is bass. I have thrown it. For years I threw it growing up. It's the only pattern that I know for a fact that I've never been bit on. I know that it works for others but it has not one time worked for me, not even a swipe.

I was about to say that wile I was scrolling through the threads, buzz baits.

I guess I should add my own: buzz baits, spinnerbaits, and drop shot.  I've put time into these lures and they have not produced.  I guess all the hype surrounding them is fake and is only made to spite me into buying more varieties in hopes of success.

You two should give buzzbaits a try if you ever find bass up shallow. Sure they can be taken by other lures but something about chuckin and winding a buzzbait is loads of fun.

Dropshot is awesome. The possibilities are almost endless.

Mine would be the Japanese market..  I'm not all for the hype.I'll admit I own some keitech.  But you won't see me gong out of my way or paying extra to get things from Japan.

Are rage and Yamamoto products made in the states ? If so then 95 percent of my soft plastics are made in the states. Like zoom.. fluke , trick worm , lizard, horny toad, brush hog... I think I could get by with just zoom if I had to lol

I don't have anything I refuse to use.

I do however refuse to give my business to several companies because I am not a fan of their antics, but that's between me and those companies, and I don't think they care much that I don't buy from them.

I have a hard time with Shimano.

From what I've been able to gather, they stole Lew Childress's design and marketed it as their own.

I generally won't use and any reels made in China. I own one, my ultralight Pfluger. I got back into fishing, realized I needed to replace my UL reel, and ordered a fairly high-priced spinning reel from a brand with an excellent reputation. I felt betrayed when I saw "China" on it.

The ball and chain aka the Carolina rig.  I have tried but it sucks and has never worked so i pass on it.

The DT series from Rapala and their Rattlin Rap. I've had too many of the DT's fall apart to ever pay what they want for them again, which sucks because they're a good bait. The Rattlin Raps on the other hand, I could throw one of them into a frenzied school of white bass and come back empty handed. They just don't get bit for me even though they obviously catch fish since they've been around for years.

I dont like crankbait as much especially deep crank. I plan to try shallow one like squrebill this year.

Btw, I got finess worm, senko and jerkbait style plastic in bubblegum and none produce any fish yet.?

I've thrown them. I even own a black and white one. I've had one fish swipe at one and miss, but have never caught one.

Sometimes it just isn't meant to be.
