Veg cutting braid

Featured Replies

I have always used an 8 carrier braid, my first spool ever being PP super slick 8.  I have used tons of great braid but I am looking to pick up a spool of braid that cuts threw the veg and still has good strength.  I hate how the 8 carrier does not cut very well on long casts with a frog or the amount of junk on the line while fishing the slop.  Is the original power pro the best to go with or are the sun line braids also good to cut threw the junk.

4 carrier brads work better for this.

Got to love the old school PP B) It takes velocity, diameter or texture (abrasiveness) to help cut veggies. The sound of original PP "singing" through your guides gives you one of those things the new fancy braids can't

So spider wire is first choice because its a four carrier.  I know that's not true

4-carrier braids:

Seaguar Kanzan

OG Power Pro

KastKing Superpower Braid

Sufix Peformance Braid

There's more...those are ones I've used, and work fine for me.

I have used suffix performance braid and did not realize it was a four carrier.  Wonder if I can find that in 50.  Does it cut as well as the 4 carrier PP or not so much?

Most of you are not familiar with kelp a sat water aquatic plant and very tough for line to cut through. I use Fins PRT 60 pound braid to catch 50 lb White Sea bass in the kelp and it cuts through it like a knife.

How does it compare to pp in size and handling

FINNS has permeate color dye, doesn't run or fade and Teflon impregnated fibers that don't fray or make noise. You can look up the diameters, should be equal. FINNS has been around a long time located in the USA, Georgia.

TW carries it now,

Quick question what is "carrier" mean when referring to braided line? How many braids would be a logical guess I think.

Braiding machines are made in 4 to 128 carries, each carrier can hold 2 spindles of material, each spindle can have several ends twisted together. Fishing braid is usually made from micro fibers of yarn to make up of multiple ends on a single spindle per carrier.

Look up, New England Butt braider.

I read somewhere that a 4 carrier braid is like an off road vehicle.

That being said, i use an 8 carrier for frogging and punching.

I like original Power Pro. The sound doesn't bother me. I use 30 lb for my frogging & fluke fishing around vegetation. Works fine for me. Seems to cut thru grass & the smaller lily pads fairly well. Now the big giant lilies with the thick stems is another story. Not sure what would cut thru that except maybe that braid WRB is talking about.

I use KastKing Super braid for a lot of my braid. Their Fortis is good, too, though.  I have never had any problems cutting through vegetation with either braid. I use a pretty high speed reel in heavy cover and the combination of that braid and a high speed reel, I think, helps me get fish out of just about anything.

Looked up FINNS PRT braid and the coating is polyurethane not Teflon and diameters are equal to Power Pro.

Ended up picking up a 300 yard spool of the original power pro in 50 lb test.  I hope this stuff works as well as I had hoped.
