My buddy caught this fish and swears up and down the she was 5 plus pounds. How much do you think this fish weighs if you could guess. I would say 3 pounds.

I actually switched from Geico to Progressive to save money. Lol

I'd say 4lb 10 oz.

If you count the number of scales, divide it by the month the fish was caught, add in the number of tattoo's on the arm in the photo, it allows you to make up whatever number you want.

 

I would hazard a guess that nearly all anglers overestimate a bass's weight by at least 25%.  A while back, I spent a few outings guessing the weight of every fish I caught & then weighing it.  It was pretty eye opening and helped get my estimates closer to the truth.

Impossible to tell from that picture angle and nobody will ever know for sure since it never touched a scale

That fish is closer to 5 than 3. 

I'd bet she'll hit 5lbs plus during the pre-spawn.

She definitely has a mouth the size of a 5 pounder, as opposed to the size of a 3 pounder. However, like others have said, without putting it on a scale, you'll never know...

 

If you had a tape ruler and knew the length and girth, we could give you a close ballpark number. 

It's east to measure any bass by using a piece of line cut to the length of the bass with mouth closed to end of tail. Adding a girth measurement with another piece of line you can calculate the weight within 10%. 

Length X Length X Girth divided by 1200 = weight in lbs for bass.

The photo doesn't allow for a decent estimate, length could be 18"? Average 18" bass is 3.5 lbs.

i say 3.8 to 4.3lbs.

Nice fish. I'd say it's in the mid to upper 3's. I base that on my own experience of catching some big bass that I swore were 6-7 pounds, then put them on the scale and found out they were 5's.

That fish is between 20 and 21 inches. Most of the perspective cues  are skewed towards making it appear small, and it still looks big.

Can't accurately judge the length, I use the hand holding the bass for reference with average hand being 4" wide less thumb, if the hand is 5" wide that increases the length and weight.

Your math is accurate, just add the closing the mouth coefficient.

Get a scale. This is stupid.

1/2" max extension from the upper lip, then to the center of the tail. The bass needs to 20" to approach 5 lbs unless it's a heavy body bass and it isn't! I use 75% of the length to equal girth of unknown girth measurements.

Looks smaller than my best September LMB. I didn't have a scale and thought she was 4 lbs. Who knows? Anyone have a guess?

 

 

The bass your friend caught looks more like this one I caught from about 2 weeks ago and she was definitely only about 3 lbs, MAYBE.
