Lol, I checked it, the engine will fire a couple times and has some smoke. I believe the kill switch disables the fuel pump? Cause when my toddler turns it off it just cranks lol

Yeah, my fuel line in the tank was disconnected.  It was so spotty.  It would work with a full tank of gas.. then it was just random. I finally figured it out when I was stranded on the lake.  To fish that day, I had to tilt my tank.  

 

I used a hose clamp to fix mine.   See a few pages back to see and example.

Dealer said fuel pump is internally leaking. Kinda strange that this engine came out after the recall, and even more strange that a mercury “dealer” doesn’t stock a fuel pump that had a recall on it.

Sorry you are going through this.  Hopefully this is it and you will just have great times after this.  After my fuel issue, I was worried.  Now mine was the tank and not apart of the engine, but I understand your frustration.  I am happy with mine now and just had it out over the weekend.

 

It is so hard to give your boat up for repairs... Seems like they take their time.  I wish I could fish everyday, everyday they had it I wasn't fishing...  Everyday I kept it, I wasn't fishing and they could have had it.  Its frustrating.  Just let them have it and it will be fixed. 

 

Get it back, take her fishing, and promise to never leave her with another ever again

You’re absolutely right! It’s better to not have a boat and still fish, than to have a boat and not fish. But even driving to the lake and the boat not starting, was still better than being at work ?

Okay, it's about to be one year to the date that I received my heritage boat.  I am just getting her back on the water and myself included.  What do I like and what needs to change?

 

First of all, I still like my boat.  I still believe it was a great package and of all the boat packages out there, this was the first boat that I ever had to buy.  I know what the boat is and what it does, and I know what it is not.  I fished a tournament with it against all skill levels and all boats...  I did okay for my open tournament, I didn't win the race to get to the fishing spot, but thankfully, my spot was not taking.

 

I'm a southern guy living in California.  I love being in the backwoods, brown water, hidden oxbows and lakes, rivers and some of the other big lakes like Ouachita... I love fishing in Arkansas.  When it's cold, it's, cold... When it's hot, it's hot.  Outside of that it's mild. 

 

I like fishing in NorCal,  but I truly hate one thing. It's always windy.  I am so sick of being blown around in my heritage.  I control it in my kayak and float tube.  In the heritage, I am working the trolling motor waaaaay too much while I fish.  I don't blame the boat because this would be the perfect back in Arkansas.  

 

The lakes/reservoirs are flooded valleys (aren't they all) and are deep, shallow water anchors not really a solution for me.  I have a drift sock as well.

 

The one thing that I want to upgrade is the trolling motor with GPS spot lock or equivalent.  I am running Garmin and will be putting panoptix up front... I need a solution to make fishing in this thing less of a chore.  

 

Anyone else have an update on their boat?

I added the Minnkota powerdrive 45lb with I pilot. Spot lock and jog is a game changer, you do way more fishing and less steering.

I've been looking at drift socks.  What size are you using and how much does it help?  I have been wondering if it would be worth it, adding one more thing to manage while I fish.  Some of the more open bodies of water with no wind break, it can make for a lot of work.

 

I have a 12lb. river anchor which I use quite a bit if it's windy, but of course it too has it's draw backs.  When it's windy my trolling motor battery is close to dead when I finish for the day.  I fish a river by me with a current of about 3 mph(gps) and the trolling motor doesn't make it to the end of the day there, and that's floating down stream. 

 

I haven't done any major upgrades yet.  A bimini will be on it before it's next journey.  A trolling motor with spot lock is definitely on the radar.

I believe it is a 24" sized drift sock.  It helps a lot.  I am going to to get a second one.  I just hate having to manage lines and such. 

 

I paying my dues to learn to overcome the obstacles.

do you have foot pedal,and does your cover still fit

I put a 55lb Terrova I-Pilot on mine, no pedal. Best thing yet. It’s always windy in north Texas. Don’t think the cover would fit, but I haven’t actually tried.

No pedal, the cover fits. Just got it back from the dealer in which they put a fuel pump, took it 2 hours south and it ran for a few seconds and died. Won’t restart. Luckily there’s a mercury dealer here. Will keep posted. I mounted mine in the opposite direction of the edge I’ll post some pics 

So... You have a Powerdrive with spotlock and a transducer attached?  I use Garmin, not hummingbird or lowrance

No sir. I do not have a transducer attached. I’m not sure how it works since the whole shaft and head unit turn to steer the motor. I’d imagine you’d have to run the transducer cable through the shaft  and out through the motor cable and I haven’t gotten to that yet. I use lowrance, and unfortunately the motor doesn’t have universal sonar to run with the fish finder. I did have the cable wrapped around the shaft of the minn Kota edge and it worked perfect, but the head unit didn’t spin to steer.

If you still use a sonar on the bow, what's your transducer solution?  Do you just have a networked solution with a single transducer on the transom?

I haven’t come up with a solution yet, if anyone knows if you can run the transducer cable through the power drive or around it please let us know. I have the lowrance 4 on the bow. I also don’t know which sonars you can network. The lowrance 9 ti is on sale at Cabela’s for almost half off. 

I remember when the TX Tournament 17 was promoted by BPS. They had a very remedial "LCD" locator that basically other than showing the depth was useless.

The Tracker was a bad idea on any lake with wind. I also could not see how it could be stable as a platform.

Doing some research, if you have the minnkota powerdrive BT you can attach a transducer to the motor by drilling a hole at the bottom of the shaft to feed the wire in from the transducer, run it up the shaft and out of the power head. You can also buy the heading sensor dome seperately for the jog feature which lets you move 5,10 and 15 feet away from your spot locked area. The remote is a little weird to get used to but is easier that a non resessed foot pedal from the strain on your leg. Just got my boat back from the second dealer. They replaced the fuel tank, while the first dealer replaced the fuel pump. There was fuel at the Schrader valve on the vapor/liquid separator but but who’s to say there was a bunch of air in the fuel or not, fuel pressure with key on was 45lbs, the engine has 14 total hours. The dealer recommends leaving the tank cap vent open at all times. There’s a check valve underneath the vent that will accommodate gases escaping or leaving the tank. Apparently that’s what went wrong with mine because it runs like a champ now. All

under warranty.
