Congratulations to Jam Ferguson for catching a 5 pound, 4.6 ounce black crappie.

Holy Cow! That's a monster crappie. Dang!

Congrats to the guy.

You could get a couple dozen fillets out of that monster.

That was my first thought. I'd have a hard time deciding whether to release it or eat it!

What's awesome to think about is there is always a bigger fish out there than the records... 5lb crappie is nuts.

Well said @Yeajray231. Many people said it was impossible for a fish bigger than the current black crappie record to be caught yet it looks like the record has been broken again. Other records will fall for sure as time passes and I hope the largemouth bass record gets broken by a young man or young woman who just fishes for fun.

Did he catch it from the bank?

Yowza!  And I thought my 16 inch Crappie was big.  This one could have eaten mine for lunch!

For a split second there I thought that was a bass!  In my defense the glare from the sun is on my screen...?  If I caught that I don't think I would realize it was a crappie and would have thought I had found a new species.

IGFA has the new record listed as 19.25" long by 17.75 girth regarding the measurements.

Beautiful fish, congrats to the angler!!!

Another world record for the volunteer state! I believe TN now has the record for black crappie, smallmouth bass, walleye, drum, skipjack herring, yellow bass, ohrid trout, bighead carp, spotted sucker, and most surprisingly,

whitetail deer (not sure how that Happened)

Proud we've added black crappie to the list.  Not so proud to have the bighead carp record.
