Center seat or no center seat ?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy a 1448 modified V jon boat, and I'm unsure which way to go.

90% of the time I fish alone, so I'm thinking no center seat. But the chances of me finding a used one with no center seat are probably slim. I'd prefer to buy a used one, but I'm not against buying a new one.

I'm looking into a 2009 Lowe L1448MT with bunk trailer and depthfinder for $1,500, no motor. But it has a center seat with livewell/storage.

What do you guys think? If you mostly fished alone, would no center seat be best?

Thanks.

I've fished alone for my whole life for the most part and I've never removed my center seats. My current seat folds down to a decent no slip step. I thought about it but removing it but have passes on doing it. Has not affect on my fishing. My one soft sided bag has a home on that seat step.

My flip down center seat is useful when we go out to drag the kid around the lake with boards on her feet.

The rest of the time it is in the way.

I think Jim Mac is talking about a metal middle seat that goes all the way across the boat, not  the center seat as in a bass boat. I had a jon with a middle seat, I liked it because I would use it for storage.

That makes sense.

That'd be even more in the way, if I recall my last 14' boat correctly.  Have to step over that $%^& thing 30 times a day.

I built a deck from the front all the way to the middle storage so when I stepped on the middle seat/storage, I was stepping on my front deck.

That'd work.  Middle seat...not so much...

That's exactly what I mean. I should have stated "center bench seat".

I may pass on the boat with the center bench seat. Stepping over it numerous times would drive me nuts, or I'd fall and break my neck !

Boat manufacturers started building boats without center seats in the early 70s, I aint owned one with a center seat since.

Easier to move around ?

i prefer no middle bench, or any bench!
