Where i am from in SC, people use a A-Rigs alot in the winter. I never really had much confidence in throwing one, and the only one i have is the Yumbrella. The problem i have with it is that is it really heavy. The areas i would mostly use it would be throwing by docks. 

 

What is a good lighter weight umbrella rig? and what jig heads do yall use?

 

 

Use jig heads poured with hot glue instead of lead for a lighter option that you can fish shallow. I don’t throw them but that’s what I’ve heard to do

I don’t know, this website is about as far as my internet skill set goes 

I remember trying to Mann's A-rig about 5 years ago, the only A-rig on the market back then. Made up 2 dummy swimmers and 3 jig swimmers, we can only have 3 hooks in 1 lure. My 1st outing with Manns A-rig hooked 2 bass, netted then and A-rig was in pieces; the head end with 2 wires and 1wire in each bass, 1 wire missing, the rig fell apart on the 1st catch.

Today I use Picasso School E rigs and jig heads, good strong rigs with right size hooks and 1/8 oz heads.

I have the same trouble. Try shoving a nail weight in the bellies of your baits to keep them keeled. If that doesn’t work, try lead-free jig heads. Your typical size 1/8oz jig head will still have the same size hook, but will only weight 1/16. 

The YUMbrella rig has a resign head that isn't heavy like lead models. Use a light jighead or a weightless screwlock hook to avoid adding extra weight. 

 

 

I make my own with fiberglass heads so they aren't heavy.  I have used all sizes of heads but I prefer to use a 4/0 hook on a 1/16 oz head.  I also make the like "flash mob".  The extra blades helps keep the baits up as well as produce a lot of flash like a school of shad.

I looked into making my own as well, just havent had time with work.

When you use a nail weight, are you throwing on weightless hooks?

Were I ever to cast an umbrella, and the object was to keep the weight down in order to work it shallow, I'd use plain hooks instead of jigheads. And if I was really feeling jiggy (ha,ha), Id use one jighead on the bottom arm.

I’m sorry...yes a weightless jig hook. Or even a wide gap swimbait hook.
