'Best'/Favorite place to buy tackle and the like!?!

Featured Replies

What/where is your favorite place to buy fishing gear? Personally, I've done my best to try and support my local tackle shop (Surfside Bait and Tackle) throughout my five years of fishing experience however, I just got wind that they are closing down :( Truly wonderful people that own this store, I've been thoroughly bummed since I heard of this. I've browsed many places, mainly brick and mortar stores including some of the larger department stores throughout the years but have always preferred my local shop. Now I am in search of a new place to shop. A buddy mentioned Tackle Warehouse was where he purchased a few things and was quite satisfied with the entire experience. I've found myself on the TW site a lot here recently, just have yet to place an order. Where does everyone shop? Dicks, BPS, local stores, online (TW and such)??? Thanks!

( I feel certain that this topic has come up before, but am still quite new to Bass Resource and am still learning how to navigate the site and forums!! )

You'll find that members here spend thousands of dollars at Tackle Warehouse. Customer service at it's finest. Every shipment comes with a return shipping label inside in case you're not happy with something.

I MAY eventually end up spending a few hundred before next opener in May.

Only (minor) gripe I have is the shipping time on Standard. Ordered a new tackle bag from Cabela's, and boxes for it from TW on the same day. Got the bag Thursday, still waiting for the boxes.

It's minor though - doesn't prevent me from spending money there.

You aren't too far from Green Top. I always made it a point to stop there on my commute to Norfolk from DC. Good shop. Online, there are all sort of places to get tackle. I find you can just google an item, and go from there.

It kinda depends what you want and what you use. For me, spinnerbaits and spoons are the majority of my lures. I get spinnerbaits direct (J-mac and Northland) and the spoons I get from FishUSA. They have sales several times a year. But if I had to use all the same popular lures that the vast majority of bass fishermen use, it would be Tackle Warehouse, without a doubt. So ..... how conventional (or unconventional) are you?  It'll make all the difference.   jj

If you’re willing to drive 20 miles south of Richmond, Dances in Colonial heights has a great selection of tackle. They get a lot of my business.

It's funny how that works (location, location, location). When I used to buy quite a bit online from Cabela's it would take about a week to get here, but if I place an order with TW by 12:30 it arrives the next day despite their warehouse being a solid 5 hours away.

BPS is a 10 minute drive from my house.   I enjoy walking around and checking out colors and what’s new.   If I make a big order it’s Tackle Warehouse.  If I make a small order I just started using eBay.   All my jigs are from Siebert.

Unfortunately there aren’t any local tackle shops within reasonable driving distance.

I would rather purchase at local "mom & pop's", Edgemoor Outdoors or C&C Outdoors. Academy and BPS would be number two for me. I guess I'm old school, so online (Tackle Warehouse, etc) is my last option. I want to actually hold and see what I'm buying. I will say that when I've purchased from TW, I wasn't disappointed.

Tackle Warehouse has always been good for me. We have a BassPro about 40mi from me but there almost useless. Same area has Academy Sports and there pretty good(great sales sometimes) Several times I actually have found best deals on Amazon/Ebay for rod and reels. Sad but no mom/pop tackle stores near us anymore

Online mostly, but I like to check out the local Academy's for clearance deals. BPS and Cabela's rarely get any money from me anymore, their prices are just too high.

A small local shop mostly...am fortunate.  Do order some online stuff but it is minimal.  Love going into small shops...it's like an adventure.

I don't have any local tackle shops and the box stores that have some stuff do not have very good options.  Almost all of my buying is online and through TW.  I will shop around and find some deals from other sites though.

I buy a lot of fishing gear from Dick's Sporting Goods. I use their price match guarantee to get in store merchandise at online prices.

Anything I can't find at DSG I get online.

Walmart gets honorable mention as I can get a lot of my confidence baits and tackle there at reasonable prices.
