Yeah, I know some of you are going out today or you'll reply you fish through the winter, but these old bones can't handle it. Therefore, I torture myself with YT videos until March when MY season starts. Man, I can't wait to work a jig along the banks of my honey holes!

 

I’m out here in the North East. Winter is what it is. Could have or potentially could have been a lot worse so far. Gonna hit 48 this afternoon. I won’t be out on my boat but it’s one day closer to spring. I have some trout fishing as an outlet during the winter close to home. As long as the streams don’t get hard it’s a place to visit.

These are bass on the bed that aren't interested in eating. They're just trying to move the bait.

I realize that but I'm sure bass grab craws by the claws all the time, we swing and nothing is there, then my trailer comes back missing a claw...lol

I also plan on taking advantage of the high of 51 to do some bank fishing this afternoon.  The next 5 days might bring the ice.

 

The first week of the year has been a struggle,  with all the rain the lake level is up 10' compared to the last 3 winters. Access, daylight, and finding fish without the boat have been bigger issues then the temperature.  Spent 2 hours Sunday rock climbing a bluff wall in 20 mph winds to miss the only bite.

 

Not ready to move on to trout yet, there is bass eating somewhere. 

 

I love winter, the only part that I don't care for is the short daylight hours. Days are getting longer one by one now though! Won't be long til I'm casting in the 9:15 pm twilight

Looks like they're setting in here soon as they're calling for snow this weekend.

 

I was lucky enough to get out on Sunday for a few hours, high was 60. Fishing was tough but man it was great to be out there in January.

I fish throughout the winters. I also spend a lot of time tying flies, and this winter I am messing around with tying some hairjigs for float-n-fly applications. It’s a fun and productive way to fight the cabin fever. And so far, the bass seem be taking a liking to my jigs.

Thank you sir!!!! I had bought some deer belly hair for jigs and forgot about it, your post is the only thing that saved it from the proverbial rabbit hole. You might have just caused me to catch some fish ............

Update: 

 

I found the small ones with gray jig heads from last winter in my tying box 

I love a good jig bite.

 

I went fishing Saturday on open water. 40 degree air temps. I caught nothing.

 

Seen some creek chubs, a pickerel and a carp trapped in my local canal. Tried like hell to catch them. If I did I would have relocated them to the main river so they wouldn't starve to death.

 

Snow and ice here over the last few days have pushed me back into hibernation mode.

 

Bright side is I have a Florida trip planned for next month. I hope to ctach my first fish of 2019 then and more.
