Greetings from Central Illinois!

Hey all!

I lurked around several years ago when I was getting into bass fishing, and after a hiatus of a few years, I'm extremely happy to say I'm getting back into the swing of things! I was fortunate enough to move somewhere with a pond 50-60 yards from my back door, and after I saw some bass swimming around, I started to get the itch! Through these forums I was able to piece together my first casting setups on a poor college student budget way back when, and build an arsenal of baits and tackle that would serve me well once I dusted them off. I forgot how much I missed the preparation, frustrations, and feeling the anticipation and excitement like a kid days before Christmas as the pond thawed and unfroze a little more each day. Plus, now I have a little fishing buddy to make memories with. It's a pleasure to be back and not lurking anymore, and look forward to being a part of the community!

If anyone would like to aid in my monetary sacrifice to the bait monkey, I'd greatly appreciate any bait suggestions or techniques for fishing the pond behind my place. I've never fished a pond quite like it - green tint to the water, timber around the edges, 10-20 yards of open water around the edges, and a massive flat of hydrilla 3-6 inches to a foot below the surface with snot-grass on the bottom. They crush top water, but when the top water bite is off, I only managed three non-top water fish all year - each were as soon as the bait hit the bottom. Two of those three yielded the biggest fish out of there at 2.9 and 3.3 lbs. Outside the initial drop, the baits are all goobered up if the bait rests or is dragging salad within a few feet. A wacky rig senko works well, and I threw it often, but they weren't having it. I'm considering picking up a Keitech FAT Swimbait to try, but I'm not sure if it will fair any better.

Again, glad to be back and looking forward to this water warming up!
