What knot do you guys use for heavier fluro? This would be a minimum 15lb test all the way up to 30lb.

I'm struggling with the San Diego jam more than any other knot, including the FG knot. Are you doubling the lines Tom? 

Palomar for 15lb and up for me.  No issues.

Doubled Uni works best for me and is grading out the highest in my tests. Just cant tie that san diego jam well

I learned to tie this knot in the 60's, it's simple with any lure that has some weight like a jig or whatever.

1. Put the end of the line through the hook eye, the tag end about a foot long.

2. Hold the top of the loop between your thumb and index finger about 3" long loop.

3. With the lure hanging down wrap the tag end around the loop about 5-6 turns.

4. Put the tag end through the bottom lop opening, then up through the top loop opening.

5. Pull the tag end snug and wet the knot, then pull the main line so the jam knot slides down to the hook eye. Now with the knot wet pull main line until it's tight, clip off the tag end about 1/8" long.

I use a single line loop, no reason to double it.

PS, tieing to a hook I clip on a cloths pin or hang a jig on the hook for weight.

Takes a while to learn & half an hour to tie but once you get it - it's the best !

I'll use 17lb sometimes, mostly 15 lb...San Diego jam knot. Although I have used a uni, but 99% of the time an SD knot.

Thanks for the advice Tom!! adding some weight is something im missing and the steps help a lot as well!!!

I can't get my knot to look like that...

This is the one I use, taught by the man himself.  Great for flouro, mono or braid.  This is all I use unless line to leader then I use the Alberto.

 

 

 

 

I am not one of the legions of Gerald Swindle man-crushers out there but this knot has proven darn near unbreakable.  Basically just a double clinch knot...

 

Doubled uni knot has never failed me.

Depends what I'm tying on: Improved Clinch Knot, Trilene Knot, or Snell Knot. These three for me.

I just use the palomar knot and I have 17lb floro but it works for me

I use the fly fisherman's go to......Orvis knot, with 3 passes through the loop instead of 2.  Quick and easy, wastes less line, hasn't failed yet.

I still use the Improved Clinch knot with 17# InvisX and have never had an issue, never.  I have never lost a fish with this knot due to failure at the knot.  The three knots I use on a regular basis = Improved Clinch, Palomar and Alberto (Albright) not sure on the last one.
