Vacuum for boat?

Featured Replies

  • Super User

Hey guys, just curious what you all use to vacuum out your boat. I always get little fuzzies etc that stick into the carpet that my hand vac just won't suck out. I was looking at smaller shop vacs (5-6 HP). Are those strong enough to get the job done?

What do yall use? Thanks.

Wet/dry shop vac.

To get simple sand & road grit up & out, I go with a Dyson Animal ~

(I have double coated dogs - it's a requirement)

To help dry the carpet after a day in the wetness and after a carpet shampoo - a wet/dry vac works for me.

And this is what that looks like.

For vacuuming I use a small shop vac. I have used Tough Stuff automotive cleaner or Simple Green at times to clean the carpet. I need to give my carpet a good cleaning now.

Thanks AJ. Not sure I wanna spend that much, especially since I won't have any dog hair in it.

We have had two Husky/Shepard mixes the last ten years or so, one is still with us. That^, is exactly what it’s like. You can literally brush until your arms hurt, and there’s still a garbage bag full of hair to be removed. It’s almost hard to believe how in the world they can actually produce hair that fast, if I could sell it for even pennies, I’d be a billionaire.

For a while we had 8 malamutes -

The hair was Out-Rageous.

Pretty much a condiment around here.

There’s an easier way. Don’t have carpet! Get the polymer non skid flooring and you’ll never vacuum or clean stains ever again.

I don't know if tearing out all the carpeting and adding different flooring to a 2018 boat is "easier". :confused50:

This is will be a major decision for me when I buy a new boat in 2021 - my current build has vinyl and I love I have never to clean it out.

Besides standing on it - most all the 'work' done on my front deck involves a good bit of kneeling.

Seems the non-skid properties of that surface might not be the most comfortable deal on the old knee caps.

The newer products like Marine Mat and Sea Deck are actually more comfortable to kneel on than just carpet.

I'd have to see it to believe it.

I have it in my Hobie.  It's pretty awesome.  Much more comfortable than bass boat carpet.

Agree with J, that stuff is amazing.

Vexus, Xpress, Gator Trax and a few others offer it as an option now.

Think about it when comparing a hard surface to carpet in your house. Which one is easier to maintain and clean? That’s all I’m saying.

I am curious how hot the new flooring gets in the sun.

Three years ago I was looking at a Lowe with a nonskid floor.

It was outside when I was checking it out. the floor was extremely hot from the sun.

After that experience I decided to get a boat with carpet.

Mine is light grey.  It doesn't get very hot.

We tried Sea Deck pads on the deck of our sport fisher. The material was comfortable however stained badly with blood from tuna that hydrogen peroxide couldn't get out.

That was over 10 years ago and it may be improved today.

Bass boat carpet I use a small shop vac and carpet cleaner for spot cleaning.

Tom

The vinyl in my G3 has a pebbled texture to it and is quite forgiving to the knees. I use my shop vac to get the bits of trash, tag ends, plastic bits, leaves and twigs up. I purchased an extended hose and can do the whole boat without having to get out until I'm done.

My decking is also gray and reflects nearly all the heat and soaks up very little of the hot rays of the sun.

The ONLY thing that has stained my deck was plastic dip that spilled. Spike-It stains EVERYTHING, though.
