G Loomis popping rod. Good for bass tecniques?

Featured Replies

Hello

Has anyone ever used the G Loomis Popping Rods (PR 884c or 842c ) for bass fishing? I believe they are designed for saltwater flats fishing.

I am not sure what the different in the taper would be from an MBR taper.

Any experience is welcomed.

I'd stay with MBR

From experience? What is the difference of the two?

I had a spinning version. Versatile and a little bigger guides. Totally work for bass or other species.

GLX PR844C/ Core 100Mg  Most treble hooks, but especially topwater.

GLX PR844S/ Stella 2500FD  My go-to spinning rod

Loomis PR845C is an excellent small crankbait 1/4-3/4 oz rod and structure spoons 3/8-1 oz.

Popping rods have moderate action flexible upper 1/3 tip with 5 power lower rod strength that can handle any size bass. PR844C would be a little softer tip wouldn’t go over 5/8 oz cranks or 3/4 oz spoons.

I'd stay with the MBR for versatility but depends on what you plan to use it for. MBR will also be easier to sell if you decide you don't like it.

Been using a pr8400s about a year now, makes a fantastic dropshot rod, also throws jerk baits like a boss. Most notably the rod has more backbone than most medium light power rods. No experience with the two specific rods you mentioned.

I used a PR844C for a long time years ago.  This was pre light weight crankbait rods time.  It was probably the best cranking stick on the marked IMO back then.

I agree with the dropshot rod & it makes a good jerkbait rod. Like already mentioned it's good for cranks, topwater, flukes & livebait applications.  It's actually a very versatile stick.
