Need a Deep Crankin Rod Recommendation

Featured Replies

This year, I want to start throwing deep diving cranks, mostly dredgers, 6XD, DT 16. I won’t get into the 10XD space.

There’s graphite, composite, and grass. It’s a lot to soak in and any testimonials and guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Deep cranking is one of my favorite techniques.  I have a Tatula glass rod for the size of deep divers you are asking about.  7'4" Heavy Glass.  Model TT741HRB-G.  I use it for 1/2 or larger spinnerbaits and chatterbaits too.  I have it paired with a Tatula 150 5.4:1.  The rod is pretty light for the size and I can use this combo all day without getting too wore out.  I really like the glass rod for this application.

I mostly throw these crankbaits on it:  6th Sense Cloud 9 C15/C20, 5XD, 6XD, Dredger 20.5 and 25.5, and DT14-20.

Good response. I’ve never fished with a glass rod, but have read that they can be heavy and insensitive. Doesn’t seem like it with that particular model right?

Sensitivity isn't a real concern with this presentation. You'll know if a fish hit it or not.

Popular crankbait rod out west is Cashion Med/hey 7'6" Elite Deep Diving Crankbait rod.

I've been using this Lew's rod and really like it. The 7'6" model. TW has it incorrectly listed as a medium but it's actually a med-heavy/mod. fast.

Lews Custom Speed Stick Crankbait Casting Rod

Have it paired with the Lew's BB1 Spped Spool in the 5.1:1.

Most of my reels are Shimano and Daiwa. Last year I purchased this Lew's reel (my first Lew's) and man am I impressed with it. I found it much cheaper on another site, tho.

Abu Garcia '"Winch" Rod.

I really like my Powell Max3D 7115 but it's been discontinued.  I've used the Powell Endurance 755 for those baits and it worked well.  I'll probably pick up an Endurance 7116 if something happens to my Max3D.
