loosing fish

Featured Replies

I have been doing a lot of micro fishing lately, and catch a ton of fish on 1/64 oz jig head, ill switch plastics onto the same jig head, and every time i put on creme lures little fishie, I get bites, but always seem to loose them. They like the lure, but i cant catch them with it....ill then take that plastic off, keep the same size jig head on, put on a gulp minnow, and have no problem hooking the fish.

Why am I loosing the fish? My guess is the creme little fishie is too big for the 1/64 oz jighead? maybe I need a bigger hook? what size jigs do you guys use with this plastic? it looks to me like the plastic is a bit too big for the jig, but it comes with a 1/64 oz jig, so go figure.

I would try switching to a slightly bigger jig, with a bigger hook, and make sure your hooks are super sharp.

Assuming you're dealing with some panfish here? They tend to strike short at baits pretty often if that's the case and have a difficult time getting the bait in their mouth if they're not larger individuals.

Little Fishy was a very soft plastic lure before Creme purchased it and changed the plastisol to harder injection molded plastic. You need a size 2 sharp hook with expised hook.

I've experienced that . Lures made for panfish and the equipment used to cast them are not the best for bass .

I have to look up Creme Little Fishy and might try it myself this year. It is 1.5” with pretty wide body, I would use bigger hook than the one come with 1/64oz, size 8 or 10(unless you have it custom made).

If you want to stay with 1/64oz jig head, Trout Slayer jig come with size 6, or 1/32oz crappie magnet double cross eye jig head size 3(actual weight is 1/24oz)

thanks for the tips everyone, ill try the suggestions and see what works best.

The little fishie lure is pretty cool, I like it quite a bit, despite only getting bites and not catching anything on it yet.

I was also amazed to catch this bass, on a 1/64 oz jig head and a plastic tube, hooked him in the top of the mouth perfectly. Made me realize you can catch big fish on small baits. i know hes not big, but most likely the largest bass in this little micro fishing spot.

Little Fishy was used with 1/16 oz with size 1 hook darter head jigs back in the late 80's.

so last time I went out, i noticed the distance between the hook and the plastic was small, I think the hook just doesnt have enough distance to "clear the bait" so to speak...still managed to get another decent bass....small bass but a monster for this little spot I fish.

Nice... I remembered I once dragged trout worm on split shot rig for those small bass. It was only way for me to catch bass in those SoCal city park lakes. It was fun on UL rod and kept me going until now.

With little fishy, you might try to hook different way, flat side up, this way the lure would glide more (think leech) and you got more hook point up the lure.

You got PMed.

For you my friend.

Went out to try new rod I just got from Japan Majorcraft Speedstyle S632UL solid tip with 1/32oz trout magnet. Caught about 6 bass, no bluegill ? with this biggest 1.5-2lb. All bass landed the rod handle pretty well and cast total 1 gram quite good with 4lb Nanofil. I think I’m done with spending money on spinning setup.

You could try weighted wacky hooks. I tie skirts on those and fish them with Zman TRD Craws as trailers. Caught 5" to 5+lbs on those. In fact, the fish in my profile pic was caught on this little guy right here:

niiice!!!

I tried the trout magnet, I have better luck with minnow head jigs of the same size. I know there are some monsters over there, see them jump all the time, but cannot catch them!!! lol

thats awesome idea. I am not the best jig head fishermen. I almost never use them, but I have been having great success lately with them. You basically just made your own little finesse jig. Awesome idea. Been meaning to get around to buying some lure making supplies from jannsnetcraft

That one is a 1/8 oz VMC weighted wacky hook. I started tying jigs last year and have gotten pretty decent at it, for my standards anyway. The fish seem to like them and their opinions are the only ones I actually care about, lol. I just buy the heads or have people make me some if I can't find what I want.  Fishingskirts.com has an a amazing variety of skirt materials . Siebert Outdoors also has some awesome stuff for lure making and the owner is a great guy to do business with. No problem giving him my money.

I often use a pair of dykes to trim a jighead to a lighter one.
