Birds

Featured Replies

No, not the flying type.

Snow birds are dumping their RV tanks in our local ponds, lots of floating fish and the stink.

Apparently the local govt doesn't care (money), so I'm looking for Ideas on how to solve this problem for the part of our community that does care.

I have a group that is willing to go on a You tube shamming blitz with me, but I'd like to know what agencies I could contact about this? DFG seems to thin in our area as far as personnel to enforce this.

How else can I make a big stink (pun intended) about this problem? I am completely prepared to be a complete you know what about this (think James o"keefe). I am willing to go to whatever lengths necessary to put a stop to this disgusting BS that is ruining one of our fisheries.

First things come to mind are spike strips or land mines.  EPA takes almost any level of offense reporting.  I'd think that even if lax, that local law would have to take the report if you think there's a public health hazard.  Most every town/county/city has some sort of community forum or outreach capability.  Local tv news might latch on, also if you can lead them to some juicy 'in the act' shots

EPA or state level environmental agency, ours is called TDEC

Beat me to the punch -

I was literally typing the same.

Not sure how local authorities an turn a blind eye but after you inform the State & or Federal jurisdiction,

I bet the locals will become re-interested toot sweet.

Videos are very convincing -

Good Luck.

There was a story a few years back about this train that takes human waste from overpopulated New York to some wide open area down south and dumps it. A weird way to make a dollar but I digress. The train broke down near some town in Alabama and the residents couldn’t stomach the smell! (Couldn’t have happened to a better state in the US haha)

Wasn't this part of a movie plot or something recently ?

Sounds familiar  . . .

Yea ~ maybe I do like that one.

Now I'm thinking about it, perhaps it was "Billions" on Showtime ?

It was a part of the 24 hr news cycle a year or two ago. People in TN of course loved the story, I might be able to find a link

Before you call the EPA call your local/county stormwater authority and find out if your area is designated as an MS4 municipality. If it is you can press your local authority into action by talking up contacting the EPA. There's no way they want the EPA in their back yard because it will open up a can of worms as most MS4 designated municipalities are still well behind the EPA's MS4 requirements.

Even if they are not a designated MS4 they still probably don't want the EPA around and will look into rectifying the situation. Ultimately, even if the EPA is involved it is local landowners/government that will be responsible for taking action.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

Call the local TV station and see if they have a "Channel xx on your side" show.

Around here I'd also call the folks who manage the Chesapeake Bay Program. They know lots of important people in the watershed...

You could also get some media and/or Youtubers to call the communications office for the mayor/city and ask for statements about the crisis. That alone will make them think that the nation is watching.

  • 4 weeks later...

Call the craziest group of environmentalists you can find and get them on it. I'm in California so there's one on every corner here.

Get video evidence, maybe license plates...if you wanna go that far yourself.

That's messed up - people suck.
