feathered treble hooks

Featured Replies

So I have a few spare feathered treble hooks, I was thinking of placing one on the rear treble of both a lipless, and billed crankbait, hopefully give it a little something extra, might sound silly but was just wondering if this will affect the wobble/vibration at all?

Think Parachute.

Might be a good thing, might not.

my thought process was they are so small and light the affect has to be next to nothing, but figured it was still worth asking. Ill give it a shot. I doubt ill notice a difference, hopefully they fish do lol

Drag is drag. It will change the action but you have to try it to know if the change was for the better or not.

Love dressed treble hooks, I put them on all my favourite crankbaits and jerkbaits. I tie them myself and match the bait so it looks like the bait is being followed or wounded. Also give it's a bit more flash. I notice a little more kick on the back ends of the crankbaits and a little more resistance on the jerkbaits but they have benefited my lures very positively.

As previously mentioned u dont know until u try. I really enjoy making my own.

They seem to be okay on my lures. One thing I found out when I started tying them was to keep the feathers on the lighter side and not make them too thick. Thinner ones seems to not matter to the motion.

I agree more is not better.  A few thin strands can add some secondary action.  The rapala jerk baits use them.  It's the first thing I ever tried to tie and it is a great way to learn.

I don’t like it on Jerkbait and lipless, the action/vibration is definitely toned down by a lot. I will definitely try on deep and shallow crank later on this summer.

To me objection is not to add more action but to numb action down a little and will help slow down the fall or the rise. Im targeting crappie though not bass.
The one you should try with feather hook is poppers and some walking bait.

Marabou has very little water resistance with maximum flare when stopped. Chicken hackle feathers are popular for dressed treble hooks combined with a few strands of Chrystal flash, no more then 3 feathers or they act like a rudder. Crankbaits feathered hooks also work on front hook in lieu of the rear hook without changing the lures action.
