Say you put a bullet weight on then tie on your hook. What’s some ways to peg the weight down close to the hook?

A toothpick works well if you don't have bobber stops

One thing I want to add is, I don't peg the weight unless I am pitching into heavy cover.

My hookup ratio is always better with a loose weight.

I like bobber stops too . A couple of times I forgot it was on and it slid up the line . I could feel it go through the guides on the cast and I'm  thinking "what the ---".

I agree with Glenn about not using toothpicks as I've seen how they can damage line as the weight flops around. I prefer the peg-It's  as I dont  find the stops to be snug enough for my liking. Having said all this  I'll add that there's been a couple times in the past where I didn't restock my toothpicks and just whittled a twig down in a pinch. 

I just use a very small pinch on bullet weight in front of first weight if I need to

 

If you're cheap use a piece of rubber band and a old piece of line.

Ive heard this from several people but wound up buying some that look identical on amazon at about $15/100pc. Have worked great so far!

The problem with bobber stops is you have to put them on before you put your weight and hook on.  The OP was asking for ways to peg the weight after tying on the rig.  There are a number of plastic or hard rubber pegs on the market and all will get the job done.  I use braid for my worm fishing and use a toothpick. I don't recommend one for fluoro or mono.

Got 600 for $7 on Amazon. Yep - they came in a 600 pack (I just looked and they are now 1200 for $8 what the...?). I give them away any chance I get.

You can use these after you put your weight and tie your hook on.

What size did you get?  I just mine in.  1,200 for $9.  I went with the medium and wondering if I should have gone with the small (for 8-15 lb).

I have medium size.

 

I have it on 14 pound mono (.014 " / .36 mm). It's nice and snug after one day of use, I just felt it on my rod. I got them for 10 pound line but haven't tried that but my guess is medium would work. I think they have a chart you can reference.

 

So far they hold their position well. I've only used 1/4 oz weight at the most.

 

My Amazon order says "100 Pack" but they are 100 bundles of 6 stoppers, so 600 haha. I've had them awhile but just started using them.

It's amazing/scary that 1,200 of anything that is manufactured, marketed, packaged, sold and shipped from a far off land (to me) can be bought for less than $10.

Thanks, I appreciate the info.  I don’t know what I am going to do with 1,200 but for $9 why not...haha.

I saw in a BPT tourney earlier this year, Todd Faircloth said he still uses a toothpick.

He said something like he only pegs when fishing heavy cover so his line could handle the toothpick without damage and that he also reties often
