Old bass lures

Featured Replies

I was sorting some tackle and was looking at a bunch of lures I would probably never throw again.  I have these old bass lures that I originally got because they worked on Muskies and thought they would work on a smaller scale for bass.

I am sure some of you have some much cooler old lures.  I used to have a lot that I inherited from my grandpa and dad but I lost a lot of those on the way.  Lol

You can tell the Rapala by the foil and eye .

That and the name is stamped on the metal bill!

The LS lure may be a Bass Master instead of a Miro Lure, they also made a Pike Master.

CD Rapalas with metal bills have the name stamped, can see a few letters. That is a very old early 60's balsa Foil CD14 as you correctly noted.

I believe all of those would work on bass under the right conditions.

I have a few of those DD90s still in the box, purchased in the 70s.

How do those metal lips on those Rapala's stay on after a few good fish battles? Those are cool looking lures.

Here's one for you @JediAmoeba, oldest spinnerbait in my collection. Shannon Twin Spinner, 1917-1919.

Amazing!  I didnt even know spinnerbaits had been around that long.

Was this a bait typically trolled back in those days?

I don't know but the knots I was tying at 15 years old didn't hold up very well.  Oof.

I imagine both trolled and cast/retrieve.

I fished Shannon twin spins a lot in the 50' to early 60's and they were a casting lure buzzed just under the surface or bounced along the bottom with a pork eel trailer. When I learned how to make a twin spin with a football head jig in the late 60's the Shannon was retired.
