anyone ever use a centipede for bait? Took out the trash and there were a couple huge ones under my trash cans outside. Took off before I got a chance to catch one but thought they might make good bait

Centipedes can have a very nasty bite. I think I could find another critter to use for bait.

I'd pass on that. I've used big millipedes for bluegills when I was a kid and they worked great but they don't bite like a centipede does.

Ya - they've got a venom in their bite that makes a horse-fly bite mild by comparison.

Maybe artificial, I'm not touching a Giant desert centipede. ?

I tried to step on one of them, didnt kill it, but they are very "active" I would imagine a hooked one would go nuts underwater. The artificial ones look pretty cool too. Check this video out, not sure of the country. if i catch one ill give it a go

 

 

I generally prefer to not use bait that can bite back and hurt me. ?

 

The couple of times I have gone on fishing trips to Canada, I could never get comfortable using leeches for that same reason. No question the walleyes flat out munched them on both my trips. But I never got comfortable with hooking them. My very inartful and wimpy looking method involved using a minnow net to flip one out on the deck of the boat and pinning it down on the deck with the minnow net while I ran the hook through.

 

I would expect baiting a hook with a centipede to look similar, if not worse.

Here now....... Man didn't climb to the top of the food chain to be scared of leeches minnows and centipedes..... Hahaha stores are running out of food, you might look into a philosophy change . Just messing. I have a video of my buddy trying to grab a lamprey off the bottom of my boat that is comedy gold but not family friendly enough to post

Before senkos I caught thousands of bass of all size on zoom centipedes.  Now I throw a stick-o 4” in place of them.  Great little bait when things get tough.  If they get torn up from catching just turn them around.  If both ends get torn just bite off the end, you now have a 3” centipede!  Lol

hahah i dont have a problem dealing with critters, I have eaten fried tarantula, fried grasshoppers, and many other fried insects, balut, as well as many others things most americans would not eat.
