I got mine today.  Looks really nice and feels great.  Hopefully it holds up well.

Just for S & G, I threw $50 in the Indigo kick-starter. Mine is supposed to be here soon.

Yeah, this was a reel I didn't need.  I am still not sure what I need a small low profile baitcaster for in this speed.

Mine is supposed to be here Monday. Going on my buzzbait rod to replace the much bulkier original SD. Just in time for me to have a week off too.

 

I got mine on Friday, it is a very nice reel.

 

Just got mine. Does anyone else have a bit of back play in the handle. Even with the drag tightened down.

If mine does, I haven't noticed it but I'm not always the most observant with that sort of thing. The spool tension does have to be set pretty tight but it still cast plenty far even with it being dialed up.

I'm going to flush the AR bearing and see if that helps.

The ARB won't care one way or another if the drag is tight or loose. Pressure is transmitted down through the sleeve to the stack.

I've have lots of reels with slight back play when the drag is completely loosened of, fine when tightened. Possibly some play due to a loose drag stack and some oil in AR bearing?

The amount of back play in the handle should be 100% a function of how many needle bearings are used in the ARB and as a result of that how far apart they are spaced. the only way that the drag would affect this would be if they used an AB bearing with 6 rollers as is common on cheaper reels. With those reels a bit of back play is normal as the rollers are spaced farther apart and are coarser so the shaft might have to go back just a little to lock on to one.. 

 

Clamping down the drag will only stop the shaft from moving due to friction and has nothing to do with the ARB. Once the drag friction has been overcome there will still be a little play before the ARB takes hold.

 

The back play isn't significant of much except the maker skimping a bit on parts to keep the price down, and should not affect the anti-reverse ability of the reel.

Actually, handle back play is 99% related to the fit/tolerance between the sleeve and main shaft or key washer. The clutch doesn’t depend on just one roller pin to activate at once.

No, but what I said is accurate. whether it depends on 1 or 8 pins, they still have to be in the right spots to work and the fewer the pins, the more space there is between them.

 

What you say is also true. A poor fit between the sleeve, the shaft, and the key washer in particular might also cause the back play, although in that case I would think that it would be a lot more back play and the amount of it would be sort of random from time to time.

 

You are a pro. Certainly you've had to notice that 6 pin bearings have more back play than do 8 pin bearings..no?

Mine didn't. Thumb bar quit engaging after the cast about halfway through the season.

Sold mine without even trying it out. Pinion was a tooth pick and the rest of the reel was just meh. Get a fuego or slx.
