Hello.

I’m im looking for a rod reel combo that would be good to use to carry with me in my car. I drive a small Honda accord and right now I’m carrying a one piece abu Garcia vendetta 7’ 6” with a shimano slx dc 150 baitcaster however it has to go through the ski hole. When people are in my car they bump it and lean on it and I’ve noticed the eyelets on the rod are bending. I’m looking for something small and lightweight that will fit in my trunk out of the way but still has the strength and reliability to catch some nice bass. I like spinning reels but prefer baitcasters. Thanks for your imput and happy fishing?

St Croix Mojo Bass has 6'8" and 7'1" in medium and medium heavy that come in a 2-piece. Toss your SLX on that and you're good to go.

Most any 6’6” mh baitcast rod that fits your budget would be pretty versatile.

I keep an Olympic GraphiteLeader 6’9” MHF 2-pc 1/4-1 oz. 10-20 lb. 3.5 oz. in my trunk for unexpected fishing opportunities.

 

In your case, I would go with a 2 pc rod.Lots of them on the market now.

I got an ugly stick 6' 6" GX2 medium spinning combo on sale for like 20 bucks and it is a decent all around rod. Not great at anything, but good enough. Before that I had the same rod in the plain ugly stick. They should have baitcast rods that would meet your needs. both are 2 piece rods. I would suggest to buy them in person to make sure you get the action you are looking for.

 

The reason I say go with an ugly stick is they are cheap, bulletproof (other rods in this price range have broken on me), if fished with braid are sensitive enough to catch a pile of fish. I have kept one in my truck for years because I have a spot I can stop at on the way to work to fish and the WI summer heat hasn't seemed to bother it when it sat out in the sun while I was at work.

I agree with the others. I would choose a two piece 6'6" med action rod. You can do most things with that rod.

Or even one of the 2 piece rod that comes with 3 different tips. I have one from Amazong and it is actually decent for the money. Not super sensitive but sensitive enough. Kastking also has the twin tip Perigee rod.

I picked up a Megabass Levante 4 piece travel rod (casting) last year and it’s one of the most versatile rods I’ve ever owned. It’s a 6’10” 5 power (on their scale) with a unique taper. Essentially it has the backbone of most brand’s medium heavy with a moderate flex. Unfortunately they are hard to find but I would recommend that rod to anyone looking for one rod to do it all. It breaks down into a very compact package and comes with a carry bag. I’ve taken it on multiple flights as a carry on, fits perfectly under the seat.
