Honestly it's great to have both. But you'll get a whole lot more kayak for $1500 than you would boat for the same price....at least in my opinion. So, budget is a huge factor. I'd rather have a nice kayak than a crappy boat. 

I have my boat set up exactly the way I like it. I have kayaks, but not for fishing. I'll keep the old Rich Line aluminum boat for now...

 

And bonus, My 79 year old Dad can fish with me any time he likes.  

 

Is that an old Rubbermaid tackle box?  Those things were great! I had three of them back in the day.

I know it holds three big Plano boxes in the bottom...and five smaller boxes up top (on their sides). The right side has spinner bait racks.  I can jam a lot of stuff in there. Have another bag for plastics.  

It all depends where I'm fishing as what I'll fish in.  I have a bass boat in the water in a large lake and a kayak for places I can't go in a boat and an extra one for my grandson.  I also have a small boat on a trailer for when I don't want to take the bass boat out of the water to go someplace new.  

I have both.  What I use all depends on what body of water I’m fishing.  Creeks and rivers, I use my Native Ultimate 12.  LOVE IT.  Deeper rivers and small lakes, I use my Hobie PA 14.  Love it too!  Larger lakes and reservoirs, my Crestliner FishHawk 16 with a 70 hp.  Coolest thing about kayak fishing is how stealthy you can get.  Boat... speed between fishing spots, comfort. Couldn’t fish large water effectively in a yak.   Boat definitely costs more in long run.  Upkeep, registration, gas, batteries, etc....

bottom line, get both LOL.
