Has anyone ever put a soft swimbait on a shakey head or even t rigged and bounced and pulled along the bottom to simulate a baitfish pecking for food on the bottom? I just thought it might be a cool idea.

Z-Man Slim SwimZ, Zoom Tiny Fluke or Zoom Z-Swim 3.8 on a Ned, Shakey or Finesse jig

I did it once last year with success out on a point . I could see the bass on a depth finder but could not get them to bite . I rigged a swimbait , don't recall the brand , on a regular jig head and let it fall to the bottom . Then lift and keeping the line tight , let it glide back to the bottom . If I let it fall straight down  they wouldn't hit it . 

Pretty much what some of them are designed to do, like the Dark Sleeper.

I saw those at BPS and they werent what I thought they would be. They seem really small. But they work well for dragging the bottom?

 

I like the ideas you all said. Yesterday I kind of had this happen. I was throwing a weightless fluke and tossed it out and let it sink. When I flipped the ball and started to feel I felt pressure on the line and sure enough had a bass. It was out in the middle of the pond too. So I think I'm going to try this on a VMC Rugby Head just to get it down and stay down.

What kind of swing heads are they?

I do this in one of my local rivers while fishing for both small mouth bass, and walleye, and have had great success with it.

 The RPE rig is Tungsten, come without a hook, can be purchased in bulk, and possesses a unique and very secure hook hanging system.

The Freedom Tackle product is offered & sold as a complete bait.  And while I do retain the hook & quality skirt that comes with the bait to use in different applications, for my swinghead fishing applications, I am just using the head.

On topic yes I have had success bouncing keitechs along the bottom. Actually it is the only success I've had with them. Before discovering this I was just about to give up throwing them except for use as trailers. Rarely get any bites swimming them. Most bites are along the bottom or bumping through heavy brush. I treat them as a 4x4 crankbait.

They're very popular and were almost impossible to get for a while for a reason. Basically fish them like a jig.

This bait has a unique rigging system in that the internal clip slides out to facilitate hook change. Once re- rigged and fished, the football head has a tendency to 'slide' forward a bit on the internal clip and pinch the knot tied to the front of the bait.  While it's never actually been a problem, I prefer to keep it that way.  So adding the split ring does that for me.

I really don’t fish swimbaits or at least that style. I’m more into fishing grubs. Many great types and patterns. And I fish them w/ jig heads, Shakey head, t-rig and slider. I would imagine you’ll be very successful. To me it’s a grub with ribs and a slightly different tail. Pretty close to a Zipper Worm that I’d fish. Good luck. It will work. Believe and it will work.
