FLAGATOR49
I bought some Skirts Unlimited collars in the clear/gum color from Tackle Warehouse and they are absolutely horrible in the humidity. What brand skirt collars would you recommend and is there a best choice for color?
wisconsin heat
I've used rubber collars from I believe fishing skirts.com , I bought black. They worked fine and I wouldn't say they are horrible. I've switched to wire tying skirts though, much more durable. There isn't a rubber collars that I am aware of that won't break off after a year or two. Super User roadwarrior Posted October 1, 2020 Super User Share Posted October 1, 2020 I use these exclusively on spinnerbaits. Any color will do, as long as it's white! https://www.jobabylures.com/store/p23/_Lumaflex__Skirts_(Package_Of_3_Skirts).html Send me you mailing address in a PM and I will send you a pack (3) to try. I meant to order twelve, but they they are 3 to the pack = 36. I have a few to spare!
Super User Munkin Posted October 1, 2020 Super User Share Posted October 1, 2020 Black are the best option as they either break when putting the skirt together of last a few years. Amber will slowly deteriorate and fall apart that you can see. The colored ones I would stay away from as they just randomly break? I made a bunch of skirts using the green pumkin ones. Set them on a shelf in the dining room and a week later they all had broken. Easiest solution is just use some small zip ties if you are worried about them breaking. Super User scaleface Posted October 1, 2020 Super User Share Posted October 1, 2020 I like the removeable skirts with the built in collar . If it doesnt want to stay on very well then a drop of super glue holds it on while still being removeable .

Super User Fishes in trees Posted October 1, 2020 Super User Share Posted October 1, 2020 If I like a jig skirt or a spinner bait skirt and it has a rubber collar on it, ASAP I will use some 20 gauge florist wire and wrap the skirt down tight. If I'm changing out a spinner bait skirt, I like the one piece ones from Terminator or War Eagle.
Tackleholic
Easiest solution for myself is to tie them on with whatever fluorocarbon or monofilament line I have available. I usually look at the collar to check for signs of deterioration and will tie the fluoro. or mono. right over top of it. Quick, easy, and inexpensive. cadman
I wouldn't use collars. They are a waste of money, and if you have a hot color that is working and the skirt keeps slipping down well, so much for a rubber collar.

basseditor
I just wrapped some copper wire (craft store type) around some spinner baits tonight but got frustrated with how tedious it is. So, I went back to using small zip ties. It’s pretty fast and easy.

Allen Thanks guys it seems like black is the best option and that amber (the one I chose) is the worst!!
Elkins45
I hate the skirts with loose strands and collars. I won't buy them, and any bait I buy that has them gets a thread wrap or a zip tie. Thread wrapping is a lot easier if you have a vise. It doesn't even need to be a fly tying vise, just a regular bench vise will do.
BobP
Green florist’s wire. Strong, easy to tie/bend, lasts forever. I put it on wire baits beside the collar as soon as I buy them because I know the plastic collars will eventually rot and break.
