I’m going to try to take a month off work.  March?

I’m so burnt out at work. Tired and ornery.

I got furloughed at work, but the work load never let up.   I want to burn up my accrued time in one glorious month.  I’m thinking of fishing a lot. Me and my kayak. I’m leaning towards March simply because it is here quicker than April.   Camp out at some of the further lakes.  I have the California Delta, Clearlake... Berryessa!

not sure my boss will let me disappear for that long. But I’ll try.

If I could pick a month here, it would be March.

Here it would be April. Pretty much the entire spawn takes place in April here unless the weather is very atypical. It's also most of the turkey season. So a lot of the "sportsmen" are otherwise engaged. But March can be great for big fish. It can also be cold as winter.

I can’t help much with where to go fishing in NOCAL, but I would offer up one piece of advice: start looking for a job you enjoy. Good luck with the fishing, I bet it will be awesome

I’m like my job and I’m good at it.  In looking at retirement, I’m not going anywhere.

Your lakes and the Delta is better in April, less rain and warmer.

March is a great month for fishing in Mexico.  Bring some camp gear and your kayak, fish lakes with next to zero fishing pressure, great weather, cheap food, and beer.  You could stop and fish lakes in CA on your way down and back.

Gotcha. Guess I misunderstood

I'd agree with the April recommendation if you're looking for what should be the best combination of stable weather (kayak) and numbers/size of fish. March can have epic days, but it's also just as likely to have the worst weather of the winter season (possible snow at Clear Lake, heavy rain for days on end, strong winds, etc). May would be my #2 month and June may even be ahead of March if I had the choice of an entire calendar month to fish. However, if I had one month of PTO at my disposal and I was burned out at work March could easily jump up to that #1 spot.
