Roland has 9 Bass Angler of the year titles . KVD 7 and Clunn 1 . I rate the angler of the year higher than classic wins .

  • Wi believe Roland Martin was the runner up to Rick Clunn the last time BASS had this debate.  KVD and all the other later gators had Clunn’s knowledge to follow but Clunn followed know one he is

  • IMO, Edwin Evers needs to be in the conversation.  Look at the type of tournaments he's won and you won't find a more versatile resume.  To my knowledge he's the only angler to win separate top tour l

  • Still respectully diasagree   Clunn has Bassmaster wins in 5 consecutive decades Clunn is a member of the Century Club, KVD is not Clunn won Megabucks and had 2 other Top 3 finis

The "big motor" is an 8 hp Tohatsu.  These aren't big money deals, but turnout can be high.  Usually $100/team.  Pretty sure he's a trout and salmon guide and in summer, that work is non existent.  He's a genuinely nice guy, but it's fun to use him as an example in these threads.

Here he is taking our money:

Looks like the guy in the red hat is tired of donating his money! ?

Rick Clunn won the 2019 BASS Elite 4 day tournament St Johns River at age 72 with near records weights. It’s been over 10 years since Larry Nixon won a tournament and KVD is fishing ML. Rick Clunn is amazing!

I do too...or I did....maybe still do....I was watching 2019 BASS show yesterday....the 2019 AOY (Canterbury?) had no wins and only four top 5's in dozens of tournaments.   Seemed almost like at least one win should be an AOY qualifying requirement

There are many ways to measure greatness and even more ways to argue about who was/is the greatest.  I'll just say this,  if I could have one angler's skill and knowledge, I would choose Rick Clunn.

We will never know if the old anglers are better than the new ones unless the new guys do a tourny with no electrics. Its kind of ridiculous today I was watching a tourny and the guys had some electric thing that attracted the fish to his boat. I am not one to stand in way of progress and myself will use the same but I can respect someone who can fish and catch with no fancy electrics.  Thing is I dont think they would ever do one without the electrics because most of the guys peddle the stuff and probably have contracts with the makers of them.
